New video card fan
«

Something was fishy with my rig lately. When playing a game it would start to slow down for no apparent reason. Well I found the reason tonight. It seems the crappy fan on my video card gave out and I need a new one. I was looking around at the aftermarket fans on Newegg but I don't want to be too adventerous in replacing this one.
This
is the card I have. There are a number of mounting holes around the GPU but I am not sure of sizing or anything. I know a lot of you out there have changed fans etc. and I was hoping to get some help. Thanx.

Well after doing some looking, reading, and measuring last night I think this is the setup I am going to go with:
Fans
$7.99
Cooling unit
$16.99
Probably a bit more than I was thinking to spend but just knowing that as long as that thing is attached to my card I don't have to worry about the fans failing just seems to make it worth the extra $15. I did read through the reviews and others with a similar model card have used it (different manufacturer) and I checked the height requirements sheet at the manufacturer and everything clears. Even the screw holes seem to be in the right place. Unless I see some good argument I am gonna order it after lunch today. Hopefully I can get it by friday.

It may be a bit overkill but it is only $25 plus shipping. A good fan/heatsink would be $10 plus shipping. For the extra $15 I would rather have the peace of mind that even if the fan goes out the heatsink unit is as good as the OEM fan/heatsink. And hopefully it will migrate to the new and better cards I get.

Ok...I think this qualifies for a MacGuyver award. I took the fan apart and used some cooking oil to make it spin easier so my system can limp along till I get the new cooler. Actually I think it is working pretty good but I'll feel better with the new cooler.

I LOVE NEWEGG!!!!!!!! Ordered it yesterday at 1:30. Got the email that they shipped it today. Checked the tracking number and it is going to be delivered tomorrow. 3 days from order to having it on my doorstep. There isn't service any better than that.

It might be pretty cool to have a computer that smells like french fries.

New Case mod Idea. Use all the heat generated from your system to heat oil on top of the computer so you can cook french fries, chicken fingers etc.
