Title: New system, new sig!
Post by: zx2slow on December 07, 2013, 03:09:36 PM
So I built a new rig and am typing this post now with it, wanted a new system for a while.  My old system was built in 2008 and had some battle scars and needed some TLC (That it will get before being passed to my nephew).

No kids yet, been working on changing that so I decided it was time to drop some coin on one last monster build:

Intel i7 4930K
Asus Rampage IV Extreme black Edition
G.Skill 32GB (4x8GB) DDR2400c10
Samsung 840 pro 512GB
2x 2TB WD Black (From my old system)
eVGA GTX680 SC Signature2 (From my old system, waiting on the 780ti classified cards to come out)
Corsair 900D case
Corsair AX1200i power supply
8x SP120 / 4x AF120 /1x AF140 Corsair quiet edition fans
Swiftech Apogee HD CPU water block
Swiftech MCP35x2 pump
Swiftech MCR420-XP quad 120mm radiator
Primochill CTR 250 res.

My OCD is on overdrive for this, I using custom sleeved cables and making sure that when the back cover is removed there wont be a rats nest of cables.

All the crap

Halfway through construction:

Right now the system just competed leak testing and I just installed Windows 8.1.  This thing is silent, the only thing I hear is the two case fans I didn't swap out.

Did the find the 900D somewhat disappointing?  I bought a 750D for my new system and I found the aluminum to be very thing and the whole case kind of shifts around if you bend it.  The side panel "lexan" is very thing and there's zero sound insulation... I was pretty bummed.  Still built it up and it works ok now, but I just expected more for almost $200.  Then again, I'm coming from an Antec P190 which is basically made from WWII-era German battleship steel...

The case is awesome, plenty of space everywhere.  The only thing I am not thrilled with is the fans that came with it.  I was pretty surprised about how well thought out the case was.

The grey fans corsair includes with cases and their hydro series coolers don't seem to be anything like the rest of their SP and AF series fans, they sound chunky/graveley and are pretty much the only thing I hear.  I plan to swap them out with the second stage of this build.

When the 780ti classified cards come out I plan to pick up a pair along with a second radiator.  The plumbing will get a little crazy at that point so I want to try my hand at rigid acrylic tubing.

I had some EK tops remade in white Delrin those should be arriving Monday with some backplates.  I need some cables and ends to recut the PCI-E power cables the correct length as well.

95% done with a build that started in November.  Longest build ever, planned to have this done last year.

Got the backplates installed, ran out of heatshrink so I cant complete the pci-e power cables.

The waterblocks for the video cards arrived and they are wrong :(  They wont make contact with the mosfets.  I was hoping to have the GPU's running at 1350-1400MHz under water.
