New Powersupply
« on: December 19, 2006, 06:56:33 AM »
Ok last I get home and find out that my PC is dead.  No response when I hit the power buttons.  The power cord is good but nothing on the computer is getting any power.  So my best guess is power supply.  I am going to order a replacement from Newegg today and wanted to get you guys' opinion about any features I should get.  I have an Athlon XP 2600+, 2 WD 160 Gb HD (IDE), 1 DVD+-RW, 1 DVD/CD-RW, GeForce 6600 AGP (uses 1 power connector), all on an abit NF7.  The power supply I was using was a 400W unit and it worked fine until it blew up.

I have had good luck with Antec's power supplies.  And I think Seasonic, one of our sponsors, has some good products too.

Yeah Antec makes a great power supply. I have a 500W ULTRA in mine and it still works. I still don't know why bills blew up. But go with another 400W that is all that you would really need. Enermax makes a great PSU as well.

Actually after looking around I remembered that we have a bunch of XConnect cables left over from some CAD stations we purchased.  I might try and find a nice power supply that I can use those cables with.  Thanx for the input guys.

Well after checking prices of the Modular power cord PSU's I didn't get one.  Even the Antec, Enermax, and Seasonic PSU's were rather expensive.  I did get a 480W PSU just because I think the 400W may have been a little underpowered for everything I have in my system.  I'll let you know how it works when I get it.  Should be on Friday or so.

Seasonic is good, Some antec's are nice (Avoid the neoHE's).  OCZ and PCP&C are top notch.
