Title: You Know What Grinds My Gears...
Post by: -Sp()()ge- on June 13, 2006, 07:29:16 AM
...I have yet to hear anyone in the press call Ben Rothelsberger a dumbass for not wearing a helmet, especially nobody at ESPN.

That's what grinds my gears! :angryfire:

Your Thoughts?

I call him a dumbass right now, since we don't have a helmet law he takes it upon himself not to where one. Which I don't mind but now I think he realizes that he is not invincible and he should wear one from now on. I would hate to think that he would loose his career over an accident that would end is career. If he would have only wore a helmet his injuries probably wouldn't be as severe as the were.

We should encourage not wearing a helmet, but not require it. This way all the smart people will wear one while all the dumb people won't. Evolution will proceed from there.

Ahhh much like the warning label theory. Just remove all the warning labels from everything and let the problem sort it self out.

Its not a law, so free will works into the equation.  However, I bet there is a clause in his contract stating that he can not undertake risky activities such as riding a motorcycle.  I do believe that Kellen Winslow had a clause like that in his, and lost millions as a result of assin around on the bike 2 yrs ago.

They said on the news there wasn't, but the coaches REALLY REALLY wanted him to but he didn't/refuesed to

He didn't have a motorcycle license. End of story. He was a dumbass and an inexperienced rider.

Spoiled rich brats who think they are invincible and can get away with anything.

It's karma, baby!

*Heard entire story on radio at work*

on 93.5 they were bashing him since the second he fell off the bike for being a moron (with major concern to the guy's health being slightly more important) but it was good to hear some common sense in the media's spin on the accident.

PITTSBURGH - Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger will be cited for not wearing a helmet and not having a motorcycle license after an accident last week left him with a concussion, broken jaw and nose.

Roethlisberger and the driver of the car he crashed into on June 12 both had the green light, but the driver of the vehicle will be cited for failing to yield, police said Monday.

Only licensed cyclists can ride without a helmet in Pennsylvania.

Roethlisberger was traveling 35 mph in a posted 35 mph zone, said officer Dan Connolly. There were no mechanical problems with Roethlisberger's Suzuki Hayabusa or the Chrysler New Yorker, he said.

Police Chief Dominic Costa said the woman driving the car received some threatening phone calls, which police were investigating.

Roethlisberger had seven hours of surgery to repair his broken jaws and other facial bones. Doctors have said tests showed no brain injuries, although there was a mild concussion. He also lost two teeth and chipped several others.

He was discharged Wednesday night from Mercy Hospital and apologized to the team, his fans and family in a statement released Thursday. He also said that he would wear a helmet if he rode a motorcycle again.

I wonder what the intersection was like that they both had the green light. Were they going in opposite directions and she turned in front of him?

And I want to know how they knew he was doing 35!? Someone watching him with a radar gun? I smell a bit of a cover up.

Usually skid marks provide a good indication of speed.

Skid mark length, along with bike/person weight can indicate approximate speed.

You know what grinds my gears..

People everywhere keep saying how dumb he is for it.  Why call him a dumbass?  It's his choice not to wear a helmet.  Sure, I may believe it was a stupid decision, but I'm not about to tell him how to run his life.  If he wants to risk his life because he's too stubborn to wear a helmet, hell, it's his problem, not mine.  Sure, it bothers me, especially being a diehard Steelers fan.  Even so, the Steelers will survive, regardless of whether or not he returns.

Are u serious? Who else  has a 65% completion ratio and had a qb rating of over a 100. Not to mention the shear fact that he threw for a little over 2300 yards and is 23-26.

Believe it or not, the Steelers have made it to the Super Bowl before in history.  They may not be the #1 team in the NFL next year, but I'm almost positive they'll live without him.

So this is true..if your taking it literally than yes..they can technically live without having Ben in the huddle. But I was taking it as loosing Ben wouldn't be that big of a loss for the steelers...Which would be complete BS.

Though we still have a fairly good variety of great players (excluding Randal El who was a bum and left)...loosing a qb would be the biggest effect of any team.
