Well that is one method to stop pirating. Since you play it over a LAN there are no gripes to have a CD key. I just wonder if it will feature the FADE DRM like ARMA2 uses?

Whoever wrote that article; is a complete moron to even think that LAN Parties still exist. Clearly he has never heard of QuakeCon.

Let's just hope there's an offline mode of sorts, else the game'll be a classic excuse of burning the end-user to save themselves.

FADE DRM sounds alot like PSX anti-pirating.  They inserted intentional bad sectors on their CD's due to cd copying software correcting the 'bad sectors'.  Then there was the blind copy cd duplicating softwares developed just for this reason. Why wouldn't this work for FADE?
That's Mr. Deception to you.

Somewhat redundant... but here it is again.

Blizzard Responds to No LAN Support
It is official. Starcraft 2 will have no LAN support and gamers are pissed.

Hundreds of negative comments are found nearly anywhere the LAN news has been posted, petitions are launching, and some long-time Starcraft gamers are even considering a boycott despite their desire to play the highly-anticipated and long-time coming sequel.

Why would Blizzard do this considering that people are still playing the original in a multi-player LAN setting over a decade after its release in 1998? Blizzard claims it is to safeguard against piracy.

What still is not clear is what this will do to the South Korean market where Starcraft is a televised professional sport.
Here is Blizzard's Official Response to the Fan Outcry:

Bob Colayco"We don't currently plan to support LAN play with StarCraft II, as we are building Battle.net to be the ideal destination for multiplayer gaming with StarCraft II and future Blizzard Entertainment games. While this was a difficult decision for us, we felt that moving away from LAN play and directing players to our upgraded Battle.net service was the best option to ensure a quality multiplayer experience with StarCraft II and safeguard against piracy.

Several Battle.net features like advanced communication options, achievements, stat-tracking, and more, require players to be connected to the service, so we're encouraging everyone to use Battle.net as much as possible to get the most out of StarCraft II. We're looking forward to sharing more details about Battle.net and online functionality for StarCraft II in the near future." said Bob Colayco at Blizzard PR

Wouldn't this be like a STEAM system with a LANish mode but you still need interwebnets?

Yeah, let's just hope they add an "offline mode" to Bnet; Still need the internet to connect but can operate over the network.

Yeah, let's just hope they add an "offline mode" to Bnet; Still need the internet to connect but can operate over the network.

I'm pretty sure even the old Starcraft did that.  If you joined games via battle.net, then once a game started, it pretty much was direct connection with no communication back to battle.net until the game was over.

However, to force those with little to no Internet access to have to login to battle.net would be a serious bad decision.  Just google/bing the term "starcraft high latency" and you can see why LAN support is a must.  It normally takes my brother and I a good 30 minutes to get a starcraft game going overbattle.net thanks to the latency issues.
