I freakin love it. I was in the Preview Weekend for the pre-order customers this past Friday through Monday. On sunday, I played the RvR for 10 hours straight. We had 100vs100 man battles going down, and not much of the zergfests either, which was fantastic. The keep warfare is by far the best though. I really wish I would have recorded some of the fights. The siege weapons are extremely fun to use (especially the boiling oil... does so much dmg). Player collisions in PvP make the biggest difference in gameplay though compared to WoW pvp.
I will reiterate though.
Warhammer gameplay is NOTHING like WoW. The PvP portion of it is far superior, but the PvE is somewhat lacking. The best part of WAR PvE that you'll see are the Public Quests. Extremely innovatve and extremely fun. There ARE PvE raids, but I haven't seen or done them yet. The rest of the general overland PvE is mostly soloable and, while still enjoyable, is greatly overshadowed by the RvR. The crown jewel of this game is simply the RvR and the capital city sieges of end game.
WAR is a super fast-paced MMO. You're immediately thrown into a chaotic world from the get go.
And then there is the Tome of Knowledge. It may very well eclipse every other compilation of game achievements. Lord of The Rings Online had something similar called the Book of Deeds. The ToK goes above and beyond that. I can't even correctly describe it. But I can say the ToK tracks EVERYTHING. And there are unlocks and achievements for EVERYTHING. During the preview weekend, I got to lvl 15, and I unlocked almost 300 achievements. This is what I mean by everything: You click on your character 100 times, you get a title called "Ow My Eye". You add 5 people to your friends list, you get the title "The Friendly". You die 10 times, you get "The Snuffed". Die 10 times to a monster, you get "Run Away!". Die 10/100/1000 times to a certain player class. Going through a public quest naked merits a Tome unlock. I could literally go on till my fingers bled. You can use the /tell command ten times to earn "The Talker."
And it's not just titles. Like in the first 2 mins of playing a Chaos Chosen, I killed a zombie, and I unlocked a 30-step achievement line. step 1 was kill 1 zombie, step 2 was kill 25, step 3 was this weird obscure thing called the Zombie Hunter but saw no info on it. Later on, around lvl 7 I found this plaque on the wall of a dungeon when I clicked on it and read it, it gave me the update that I had all but forgotten about. The Tome of Knowledge greatly promotes exploration and opens of a VAST amount of content and the WANT to see that content. Because with every unlock you open up and/or complete.. you get a small amount of xp. So like with sending 10 /tells, yup... you get xp from that. The thing is kickass. I'm predicting there will be people dedicating their play time to unlocking everything. I'd really like to see that.
I could go on and on about how kickass the game is, but you'd just have to try it yourself. Open Beta starts on Sept. 7th, but I won't be playing then. I don't want to burn myself out. If anyone wants to check it out then, let me know. You can DL the open beta client here:
