I have some great news....and some not so great news.

I officially received an offer today for a new job and I can finally get out of the freaking sales crap I've been doing!! YAY ME!

The official title is "IT Analyst" (I think) for Comcast. Basically, I'm the guy who will be taking care of all the internal IT stuff for Comcast in all of central PA (from Shippensburg to Lebanon and everywhere in between).

First of all, no, I can not get you free cable (television or internet), although I get it for free

Secondly, the doh part of the post.

Right now, it looks like there is a 90% chance that I will not be able to make it to QuakeCon. Benefits, including time off, don't take effect until after 90 days.  My start date will be June 6, so that puts me in the timeframe of the 1st week of September.

However, I used to work at Staples with the guy who will be my immediate supervisor (maybe partially what helped me land the job in the first place) and when I see him next week I'll bring up the subject of having planned this trip several months ago. Since I would be pretty close to the 90 day mark anyways by that time, there's a chance there might be an exception made.

I can not guarantee that, I just wanted to let you know that it is not 100% ruled out yet.

Personally I can't complain. This will be doubling my salary, putting me in a position I've been looking for for a long time, and it has really nice benefits. If I have to miss QuakeCon this year, even if it is the big 10th anniversary bash, then so be it. I apologize ahead of time to anyone else this affects, but I'm sure you can understand my situation.

I will let you all know as soon as I know anything. In the meantime, let's party!!!

But sully you gotta go you're the one who is planning all this stuff, it just wouldn' t feel right if you weren't there...it would be like having a lan party(of a smaller size) without nimby there, the place just wouldn't be fun!!!  but anyways congrats man and good luck to ya

Maybe you can keep their DNS servers from going on the fritz a few times a month >_<

Man that was annoying when for  like a week Comcast's DNS servers would go down and I couldn't get on any sites almost.

No, I will not be involved with any of the ISP operations. The equipment I will be responsible for is the equipment that keeps the business running (staff computers, dispatch, front counter, and the servers they use).

If you have problems with the DNS servers, it's not my fault

use alternitive public DNS servers! (or set up your own)

Yeah I kept changing them on my router...it was annoying.

Ok, here's where it stands.

I will not be able to use vacation time for QuakeCon. However, I do have the option of simply taking a week off without pay (as Von mentioned).

So, it looks like things are still a go for Texas.

Now that that's behind us, I will make an official reservation for the RV and everything else. I'll put more details of these things in the QuakeCon thread as they are firmed up.
