Snake bots

I found this interesting and pretty neat how it moves and self navigates.  If you don't find robots and new technology pertaining to robots interesting or even mildly entertaining, then you can skip this.

That is really cool!!! now i'm wondering is that thing being remotly controled, because i noticed a cable coming out of it but I'm assuming thats just for power, or is there a program running on the laptop that lets the "snake" decide what it needs to do to get around?

In some of the other videos on the site, it's completely self contained.  I think the wires were for earlier builds of it.  I like how it wrapped itself around the guys leg and 'walked' up.  If they ever get fast enough, law enforcement can use them to apprehend a suspect.

Or to have like 12 of them just overtake an enemy and pull them to the ground....a little less violent, but effective.  Reminds of something that would come out of Ghost in the Shell.  Or Blade Runner.

I think it'd be better to use these to crawl in tight areas/sneak into buildings and gas hostage takers (as well as allow realtime cameras to be input into the situation.)
ALso, if they can figure out how to make them not ridiculously expensive, they could be mine-field clearers.
