Title: The Original "Portal"
Post by: Agent4054 on September 23, 2006, 09:02:44 PM
Not sure if many of you know the history behind the upcomming Source title: Portal. The idea was sprung by a handfull of students from DigiPen. A school for computer game design and production. The original game design behind Portal was their Senior Project called Narbacular Drop (http://www.nuclearmonkeysoftware.com/narbaculardrop.html). They went to Valve with the idea and Valve hired them for the project on the spot.

It features only a few levels, but it's enough to get you started into the gameplay you'll see in portal. The controls are very simple. WSAD for movement, left mouse button for entry portal, right mouse for exit.

So try it out if you get the chance. It was very enjoyable barring the dated graphics. But the graphics aren't the focus of the game. I got queasy when I started pulling off very crazy portal manuevers. Though, I am sort of suprised no one else has posted this yet.

The download link on the hompage doesn't work.  Here is a link on Planet Mirror (http://public.planetmirror.com/pub/vgpro/misc/narbacular_drop/?fl=v) that does.

fo sho!  I actually got a job as well as just my classes though.  I go fix students/professors computers, and when I am not working on a computer, I get paid to sit around :2thumbsup:.
