Killing Floor Tips and Etiquette
« on: July 24, 2012, 02:43:02 PM »
Since all of you are getting into the KF I thought I would post some helpful tips that I made/found. These are pretty big things and I have witnessed them in every match we have played together so far. I myself was a perpetrator of a few until I took the time to learn so I mean no offense. Just trying to help the new guys out a little quicker. Enjoy

*Leave around 5 zeds left at the end of each round until EVERYONE is together at the trader AND you all have your plans worked out for the next round

*If one of your comrades dies, pick up his/her weapon (assuming you have the room). If you have a hunting shotgun and I drop the AA12, drop your gun and pick up mine. I'll give you the dosh to repurchase your gun when I respawn since it is loads cheaper than mine.

*If somebody drops a weapon on death, and you grab it, they would in all likelihood appreciate its return. Especially if it's an expensive weapon. If you take my weapon either from a pick up or from a bad toss by someone who did pick it up and you do not give it back to me after I ask you to several times, then you will most likely not be playing in my server again.

*Call out scrakes and fleshpounds (unless you can safely handle them alone). I need a location too. Don't just yell "Big Guy Coming!"

*Learn the terminology. Yelling "Big Guy" doesn't really help. All of the enemies have a name and none of them contain the word "Guy".

*Pick an area and keep it clear. Don't run around "looking" for Zeds or they will be behind you as soon as you do. (Of course moving around the map together can be useful at times)

*Stick with your medic. As a medic, nothing is more irritating than people running too far away for me to heal them.

*Do not heal yourself unless you absolutely have to. The medic relies on those heals for his money.

*Stick with your group. As your teammate, nothing is more irritating than not being able to cover you properly (or you not being able to cover me properly) because you ran too far away.

*Don't steal money from people trying to create a dosh stream. I worked hard for that load of money. If you need some then you should just ask.

*Try to make sure everyone is on the same side of a door before you weld it shut.

*If you die, be a helpful spectator. Fly around the map and let your teammates know where zeds, weapons, and ammo are located.

*If you're going to leave mid-game give your weapons and money away to other players at the trader AFTER the trader has opened up. If you toss your weapons on the ground and the trader opens up before they are picked up, they disappear and are gone forever.

*"Don't shoot it unless you are going to kill it". I do not care how good you think you are. If you are not the right class and/or are not good enough to kill the scrake/fp BEFORE it gets close enough to cause damage, then do not shoot at it. Some people are good enough and all you are doing is messing up their shot. We will die and it will be your fault.

*Getting a lot of kills is awesome but that isn't the primary objective. Work as a team and protect each other. This game is NOT a "I have to personally kill as much as possible" game. Your kill count won't impress anyone anyways. Trust me.

*The Rock says "know your role" and stick to it.

*Use the weapons designated for your class and always change your perks before you buy any off class weapons. For instance, do not buy pipe bombs for the Patty while you are still a Sharpshooter. Switch to demo so you can save dosh and gain an damage increase. (Exception to this is the medic or beserker; however, this is useless unless you are experienced and leveled anyway)

*Learn the game mechanics. Laying into the Fleshpound will NOT work for several reasons and you and your team will die %90+  of the time so stop doing it and figure out the right way.

*If there is a sharpshooter with a crossbow on your team: Do not shoot at scrakes or fleshpounds, shoot at the zeds attacking said sharpshooter. It is THEIR job to take down scrakes and flesh pounds. It is YOUR job to protect them (After hard, fps and scrakes are best saved for demo and support, sharpshooter cannot handle them without something like an M99 since they have headshot resistance to the crossbow. Demos are clearly good for all levels though)

*Leave ammo boxes for demos or support specs (if possible). Their ammo is the most costly.

*Don't be a jew. For example, if you are a Firebug you are most likely raking in money that you do not need. Ammo up and spread the love.

*Taking the previous into consideration, remember that you will need money for the last round. Make sure you will have enough to buy those nice big guns, bombs, etc and execute you plan properly. This means you should be saving throughout the entire game. No need to really buy anything except armor until round 3.

*Ammo can be found at the end of every level. Instead of killing those last few zeds, run around and ammo up as much as you can. It will save you LOADS OF MONAY

*If you're a level 6 perk, don't steal everyone's kills. Try to be helpful but don't murder everything before anyone else can get to them. (Obviously does not apply to games when we are all leveled high)

Feel free to add your own.

Nice tips.  I find I get kicked from games so much because I join a game where everyone is level 4 or higher, and I am a 1 or 0.  Such a pain to find a newb server.

I don't play Killing Floor, but if I did, this would be the most interesting post in the world.

;) Seriously though, this is a very well thought out and extremely helpful post. Kudos!
Please just walk away. I don't want to have to stand here and say something so awesome that I'll have to remember it the rest of the day. Thank you!
