Title: Team Fortress 2
Post by: cuzzNkev on September 23, 2007, 02:54:08 PM
Okay, so Shadohawk set up a private server and 10 or so of us got into game this weekend.  All I have to say is, if you haven't bought it yet.....GET IT.  This is going to be very popular at the next LAN.  I can see a lot of time being dedicated to this game in the next and future LANs. :10: :10:

*grumbles about damn steam and having to install it on my new computer.*

I used to be a steam hater.

But, I have now purchased the orange box, Medievil Total War II, and Dark Messiah Might and Magic over Steam.  My observations:
1) No cracks, keygens, etc. Either you own it or you don't.  Alleviates the potential for decompression bombs, virii, etc.
2) No more "what patch do are we on".  Nothing worse than 1942 and the 1.619 vs 1.61B.  You patch in the wrong order and your done.  Reinstall.
3) Your rig goes down, you have a previously copied over the steam directory to archive.  You reinstall you OS, install steam, exit steam, re copy your steam files and you may be a minor download or 2 away from playing, but its all there and ready2 run.
D) TF 2 FARKIN ROX.  No more CounterPeggle BattleSource for a little bit at the LANs!!!!!

OK OK OK....I realize I am going to have to buy TF2 cause it is going to be played at LANs in the future.  Should I spend the extra money on the orange box and get half life 2 etc. (which I don't own yet) or should I just get TF2??

Same boat here, but I do own HL2 and Ep. 1....  Also I'm not even sure my pc will run it decently enough to be playable.  I saw Sully's PC run it, and I am pretty sure his is much better than mine, but I could be wrong....Sully what are you running again?

decepticon, go here: http://www.freakygaming.com/pc/action/team_fortress_2/system_requirements.html

My system is EXACTLY what the ideal specs are! I think TF2 was built with my very computer in mind.

For running the game smooth in 1280x1024 with High Quality graphics.

"CPU: 3.4 GHz Processor
RAM: 1024 MB
Graphics Card: Radeon X800 or Geforce 6800
Windows 2000/XP/ME/98
Mouse
Keyboard
Internet Connection
CD or DVD rom drive "

This can't be right, these are my specs almost exactly as well....I have 1.5gb ram though.  Are these the 'official' spec req's?

From Steam TF2 site:

Minimum: 1.7 GHz Processor, 512MB RAM, DirectX® 8 level Graphics Card, Windows® Vista/XP/2000, Mouse, Keyboard, Internet Connection

Recommended: Pentium 4 processor (3.0GHz, or better), 1GB RAM, DirectX® 9 level Graphics Card, Windows® Vista/XP/2000, Mouse, Keyboard, Internet Connection

I'm running an A64 4000+, 6800GT 256mb AGP, 1.5gb ram... I am running the game on highest quality, 1680x1050, and the game rarely bogs down at all, even with the screen saturated by entities and particle effects.

Well hell then, I am definately getting it now!  I played on Cuzz's PC and loved it.  It'll have to wait until after HALO3 tho'.

Hey Rathe I would spring for the Orange Box. You get all the good stuff, and don't forget about portal.

even though it includes HL2 and episode 1 & 2 and portal.....I doubt I will play them at all....so I am not going to bother paying the extra $15

I am running an Athlon64 3200+, 1GB of RAM, and a GeForce 6800 GT OC (256MB). It stutters a bit when the map first loads, but once everything is cached in the VRAM it's pretty damn smooth, so you shouldn't have anything to worry about with your system.

Then my 7800gs should run this flawlessly.

I have a 3.46GHz Celeron, 2G RAM, and a GeForce 6800 GT. Setting are all set to max with 1024x768, AAx4 and AF on. Was running pretty smoothly but I'll probably notch them down a bit to get a smoother gameplay (although it may have been the server I was playing on making it jump from time to time).

Yeah, I have noticed that if the server lags in the slightest everyone appears jumpy... But if you walk around at look at things that are stationary it's not your video lagging.

ShadoHawk, is your server up constantly? If so, what's the IP/Name?
Title: Re: Team Fortress 2

It's kinda running now @ shadohawk.is-a-geek.net
I think the firewall will let you in right now, I am not 100% certain. Also this is on my cable modem at home so depending on what I am doing it may not work so well.

Maybe if we get enough people from FITES playing this we could spring for a server? That'd be pretty cool!

Sounds good to me. I already added shado's server to my favs.

I have a ventrilo server I'm using atm(sorry to all those TeamSpeak addicts) that I'm hosting on my machine. If any of you wish to use it. I'll be gone for an entire week starting this coming saturday ...means my pc will be down... but when I get back it should be up 24/7.

IP: 72.95.42.174
Port: 3784

17 user limit, highest quality codec.

The game provides voice already.

Yes it does, but it's allspeak.... kindof stupid if ya ask me.

No just too many servers have alltalk on. (sv_alltalk 1) So you can't coordinate with your teammates. The ingame voice on most servers is just your team.

Yeah I noticed the team voice chat only for the server we were playing on today. Was the first time I saw that

Vent used to have better clarity back a few years ago but I don't know if vent still has that advantage anymore.

Just an FYI, {KoS} is hosting this server on a T1 line by itself, so we should be good to handle all you can bring so come on out!

Vent isn't bad, I used that for quite sometime. Now I have switched to Teamspeak, and Teamspeak is releasing Teamspeak 3 in a few months. Which will have all the advantages of Vent, and a whole lot more.
