Title: Slooowwwww
Post by: Agent4054 on February 12, 2008, 09:24:33 AM
Is anyone else's internet going slow... just the web page loading though. I'm on Verizon FIOS, but a friend of mine on comcast is having the same issue. Wondering if anyone else has been experiencing it.

My download and upload speeds are fine, speedtest.net keeps returning normal speeds. But web pages.. EVERY web page has been loading excruciatingly slow for the past week. Sometimes it just sits there and refuses to load altogether. Again, the line speeds themselves are fine. I was thinking it might have been something going on with the web itself, but the only thing I've heard in the news regarding the net was about the trunk lines that were cut in the mid-east. Though, those don't (or shouldn't) affect us.

It's pissing me off, and verizon doesn't know anything about it. Waiting 5 minutes for google to load isn't fun.

you both may be hopping through the same router if you are geographically close and that router may be having problems.

Yeah, me too.  FIOS is 'not available' at my location, yet they send me the fliers for it.  Bunch of douchebags.

^^ I get the same crap.  They didn't even have DSL in my new apt until like 2 months ago, but they started sending me fliers for it like 8 months ago.  What a waste of money.

I found out the problem. It wasn't my internet, it was the router. Was searching on dslreports.com's forums and came across quite a few threads about the same problem I was getting. Performance degradation. Slow web speeds, but normal direct DL speeds. The main thing that clued me into it being just the router was when I tried to login to the router itself. Was getting the same results as with web pages. Took forever to load, or wouldn't load at all.

So a temp fix is to restore factory settings every time the router decides to have mood swings.
