For SLI do u have to have 2 video cards? i keep hearing different things.. can i run off just 1 video card?
-
to run in "sli mode" you need 2 video cards, but you can have one "sli compatible" card. And you need an "sli compatible motherboard" and 2 "sli compatible" vid cards to run in SLI mode.
yeah...that (it is confusing)
SLI mode is the 2 video card thing.
-
will it still run off of 1 video card? will it still be nice at gaming?
-
you can still run 1 video card, and will be able to game well

I run SLI.
SLI is completed by having two matched video cards (ie 6800 GTs) on the PCI-X bus. A small bridge card is connected between the two video cards. One card renders the top half of the screen, while the other renders the lower half. The drivers complete the necessary load balancing between the two cards.
However, you only get one output (no dual monitors that I have found).

IT'S NOT PCI-X! PCI-X is a buss used in servers, PCIe is PCI express

Chill out dude. Sorry for the bad nomenclature, but we are not all technical gods.

He gets the same way when people call Ecstasy "x" instead of "e" (http://www.nearlygood.com/smilies/sign70.gif)
