About a month ago a half dozen kids at my high school (CASHS) got computer priveliges limited because they were caught after installing Firefox :10: on the school computers...the principal mentioned it during an assembly:
but our tech staff is great they caught them right away...
Errr most of them had had it since the beginning of the year...about 9 months ago?
They should have given them cookies for installing Firefox and followed their example :beers:
Has your school IT staff done stupid stuff?
-
Oh don't get me started on stupid IT stuff...
we got yelled at/punished for installing firefox...manely cause all IE traffic ran through a non transparent proxy server (ala you had to manualy enter an IP) so there was some filtering system. Yet port 80 was wide open on the firewall/gateway...enough said.
They also let the students have full cmd.exe access (and you know how wanna be script kiddies can be) with the "oh i'm pinging you!" type BS.
I could go on for days like thinking a single 1g fibre trunk could power 100 comps and at least 20 VOIP phones (they're wrong) and that java doesn't run well on windows
i'm done for now
-
are you one of the dozen?
-
I didn't get caught, yet was the one who discovered it

no USB removeable media (thumbdrive or whatever you like to call it) on a MAC.
using one on a PC is fine but not on MACs.... this was instituted for the fear of a virus on a mac...

buy and ipod and put live linux on it and reboot them in target disk mode :D
speaking of I can connect mine on firewire but NOT on usb, when asked I was told that my iPod didn't count as a thumbdrive because I could put programs on it. Yet I could have a 4gb thumb drive and be fine
