That's right! Ticket sales are now live! The first 30 people to use the coupon code FITES2012 will get 10% off their order.

Also, something different will be taking place behind the scenes this year. With FITES obtaining it's non-profit status, we've pledged to donate the maximum amount of our ticket sales to the pediatric unit at Ephrata Community Hospital in the form of Xboxes, games, and tabletop games to entertain the children during their stay in the hospital.

Does the group discount have to be in groups of 5?

We might have 8 coming this year.  Can we all recieve the discount, or are the extra 3 SOL?

The item page for the tickets says the discount is for 5 and above. 8 falls in there.

I noticed you guys didnt make a post on hardforum this year.  I can do it if you like.  There was a good amount of discussion in there, mostly us ;)  but i think it got 2 or 3 other people to register.

If you would like to I say go for it! I know everyone wants new blood to frag! I have no problem people advertising for us. (Cause the more people we get the more we get to give back!) Thank you for thinking of it. I know that we have a pile of forums we run on when we get close to the event date. But this year we opened WAY earlier than normal.

Do any games even HAVE local network support anymore? Sheesh, what's a LAN party? Just play on XBL or PSN on your couch, nerds!

Each year, at least for me, the trip to FITES seems to be less and less about gaming and more about just hanging out with a group of people who share the same interests, and visiting friends/family from back home.

Its getting hard to get interested in the tournaments.  Games this old I've lost interest in years ago. We played in the Cod4 tournament last year and made it past the first round, solely because just happened to know Backlot.  The 2nd map we got raped.  None of us have played in so long only one person knew the map. 

I've brought up Battlefield tournaments before, and network config related hurdles aside, I've come to realize how silly it would be.  How many FULL teams could there possibly be?  Esepcially with BF3 you NEED big teams.  You certainly dont play BF3 for Squad DM.    Id like to see some sort of coordinated event though.  Not a tournament, but a time set aside where everyone knows that everyone from the event will be playing in the same server.  Maybe screenshot the scoreboad after each round.  Post the results.  Nothing official, but something other than just having a free play server out there.  Which begs the question if there will even be such a server?

We play a game called Blur at our LANS.  Its fun.  Like Mario Kart with real cars.  We have a blast with it.  Full LAN support, even from the.... *acquired* version. 

Last year I played BF2 with a mod called million bot march I think it was.  That sounds like fun.
*EDIT* After trying to google for this mod.  I'm not so sure its a mod.  I just remember there being TONS and TONS of bots vs just 8-10 of us. 

A few fun non-reshashed LAN games do exist.

Not sure where I was going with this but I remember hearing Czar saying over a vG podcast once that when they have a LAN Party that they focus on the word "party".  That is what I focus on as well.

Just bought 5 seats and registered my name on the intranet page. how do i go about reserving all 5 seats and do all the people that're going to be using the seats need to register on the intranet page as well?

Yes. Or you can do what Broken does and just make multiple accounts. We do it because it forces people to check out the intranet site and they are all ready to sign up for tournaments when the time comes! Or even EARLY when the final tourney info is posted. Which should be the 29th.

EDIT: Fat fingers! 29th not 19th.

as for that battlefield 3 tournament, ill be playing either way, but is there any chance of switching to a team deathmatch tournament, or at least rush?

conquest is fun and all, but the maps are so big, and there are so many vehicles, that in an 8v8 setting, there is so much traveling from flag to flag, and not nearly as much combat as the other two modes,  and the combat conquest offers is mostly vehicle based. I dunno, i just prefer the more frequent and focused action that TDM/RUSH offer, and the fact that infantry actually plays a role.

just my 2 cents. (sorry if this was the wrong thread to mention this)

Thanks for bringing this up. What we ran in to was that if we kept it like squad DM, the game felt too much like CSS or CoD to us and wanted to try play the game as designed.

Please know that there will be a 64 slot server passworded for the lan that all attendees are encouraged to play on. We'll of course give the pass out at the event. In fact, if you want to bookmark it now, remove all your filters and search for fites.net in battlelog. It's not passworded right now. We'll be happy to set it to SDM at the lan.

yeah i can see how it would play more like cod or css (although BF3 is much better then either of them, hehe) if you used squadDM or TDM. Battlefield has always been about a mix of vehicle, and infantry play. Conquest is a lot of fun, but ive tried both conquest and rush in a competitive setting, I found rush to be more fun. Not because it was like CS with bomb sites (the m-comm stations), but just because you still have the big maps along with vehicles and the action is more focused. There are 2 points to attack/defend, so there is less running around looking for someone to shoot at, and more action. Like I said, im excited for the tournament even tho its conquest, I just thought id make the case for a rush tournament instead, hehe.

ANNOUNCEMENT!

There MIGHT be some seats made available in the next couple days. If you still need a seat, check back often to sees if some are freed up. We are doing our best to maximize space available so we can have as many attendees at the LAN.
