I am torn over this whole thing... I read most of that thread.

1.  The organizers of quake con have a responsibility to their attendees whether they like it or not to announce something very soon.

2.  I realize that an event that large needs to be done right... but they have had almost a year to work this out, and still are not moving forward.

3.  I question what type of event they will be having.  Unless they already have a venue in mind, it is very difficult to organize an event of this scale in 2 months or less.

4.  We, as a lanparty group and gamers, cannot sit around and wait for volunteer organizers to figure out what they are doing.  We have to move forward... and we will with the 150 ML!

at this point they would be crazy to make it in August, just due to the number of people that need to schedule flights/request off work, etc...there just isn't enough time, from now it's about ~50 days til the last week of august begins, and that just isn't enough time for most people.

edit: i'm espcially torn on the issue due to being staff for both, and from what i'm told even the higher up non-id people don't know whats going on, and that is what truely worries me. It would be fine if they were being jerks and not telling, but it just seems to be general confusion...

I also personally think that quakecon has outgrown itself, and i'm not sure what to do about that other than downsize, or increase the true staff people. I'm more a fan of the first option, it seems in the past 2 years the event has turned from an underground thing to a mainstream event (as has the gaming culture in general.) If you browse the quakecon forums, you will realize this has attracted a lot of morons to the event that have no respect in general, the type who aren't mature enough to be away from their parents for more than 10 minnutes without breaking something or going into a profanity-laiden rampage becuase they got fragged in game, they need to figure out a "better" way to police this at the event. Quakecon is running into the problems CPL ran into a year or 2 ago, lack of maturity, kids, etc. And as much as I hate to say this I think qcon need to look at what they did (not sure "what" they did) to solve  quakecons problems.

I just hope I can do quakecon this year :( and hopefully I will add more insight to this thread later

I disagree unfortunately...

1.  QuakeCon HAS to be in august.  If not, they lost 90% of their HS/College crowd which is a BIG part of their event.

2.  Since most people have planned to attend a lan in august... I dont think it really matters which week it is.

I agree with #1, but they say "If you build it they will come"... there are people that will go no matter when it is, that being said, it might not be 3000 people, but it will happen no matter what

There really isn't much excuse why they haven't got all this stuff down pat. I for one think they are just going to can the year and start fresh the next year. Although people who are hardcore fans would really hate this, they mine as well. It is their own fault they can't reach a common ground. I was really looking forward to going, along with a few friends. But I am with Pride on this one it must be an August prepare to crash servers boys.

The issue isn't common ground, it's finding a venue that can house 6k people and a few thousand sq ft of vendor space. Thats not an easy task to do.

The pessimist in me says it won't happen this year, but I still hope it does

They might have to hold it in another state besides Texas. Unless if they can find a bigger hotel or something.

Tib... Have you ever even been to a LANParty?  (A LANParty with more than 10 people?)

Getting your cherry popped at QuakeCon isnt something I would recommend!
