Title: q3 cpma 1v1 sparring
Post by: garland on January 24, 2007, 09:36:22 AM
Hi.  Long time, no postie by me.  Anyways I wanted to ask for some help. I am looking for assorted q3 players (ranging from low skill to highly skilled) to play 1v1 in cpma.

Just so you know what you're getting into here's who I am:
http://www.ggl.com/profile.php?ProfileId=25652

Sounds like I'm shooting my mouth off but the reality is I played some guys recently after a long hiatus and my skills are near totally shot.  I need to rebuild and surpass them.

Last night I got pwnt by a guy who I've nver heard of by like 36-3 onpro-dm6.  It was a humbling experience.  So I am looking for live training partners to play against who aren't quite "top 100" skill level who I can use to relearn my skills.  I usually try to build their skills as well so that they are challenging for me (otherwise my skills go down the toilet).

The more opponents the better.  Please don't take it personally (as I will try not to if I lose) if you get beat badly.  Spawn raping is part of the pro/am game unfortunately so I will be using the full bag of tricks.  I have to, otherwise I get pwnt by the big boys.

If you are interested please say so.  If you dont' get a response in 24 hrs email me at mmessina@spamcop.net instead.

Thanks for the link and I did register; however I would still like personal people who I can spar with; as in a non competitive environment.

Just a more relaxed gameplay would be fine, I was hoping to avoid anything formal.

I'd play, but I tend to be more cannon fodder in quake than anything. Now, if it was UT, then I'd give ya a hard time :P

No need. The squabble became a moot point the second quake was being toted as better. :P

Lol.. yeah the reason I enjoy quake3 is because of the highly competitive environment.

But if anyone wants to do any informal matches lemme know.  I'm usually off anytime after 6pm.

Huh. I will have to download the latest ver and try that.  Didn't think of going through xfire.

Alot of this comes from when I was first playing years ago (doom/quake1) and I would either play with friends (to which none of them play q3) or I had a few guys I'd go 1v1 with on a near regular basis.  Turned me into a monster.  Then I let that go, come back, get decent at quake 3, have to go again, come back and totally suck.  So that's where I'm at and I figured it worked before and can work again.

The problem has been that my most recent sparring partners are too much for me (fear, walter, etc) and unfortunately I gotta scale myself down ALOT to pick up the basics.

or rather.. to refine the basics.  Sorry I'm at work and semi-distracted

Update:

For those of you who may be too afraid of jumping into q3 because you haven't played in a while, were never that good at it, or whatever.... I will provide free training to you to bring you up to spec so you can be competitive against me.  Obviously it behooves me to get opponents who are around my skill level (within 30% or so) and just beating on noobies is fun for no one.  So free pro-level q3 training for those who are interested :)

This includes:
All the nifty config file tricks that are legal for tourney play
All the little timing tricks
How to dos for quake engine things such as strafe jumping
Full critique, demo recording and analysis etc

I have tried alternate channels and they are not suitable.  I need a person who I can consistently train with/against about an hour a day.  Teh endx0rs

Garland,
Another reason to get Xfire is that it will track your stats in Q3A as you play.  If you check out my profile I have some stats in there from when I goof off in Q3A.

Neat.  Learn something new every day.  I thought it was just some gaming related chat client.  Go figure.

Lol.  Well that's cool but you know you don't need to track the stats of practice games that much :)

unless you're talking like % hitrate, damage, etc.  That'd be pretty pimp. I'll check it out nonetheless ;P

I will play some cpma with you. I mostly only play bots, so I wouldn't consider myself that great.

my xfire: soljudge

Are you looking to play cpma vq3, or cpma default style?

I'll have to check the listings to see what's currently 'the standard' for games.   I'll let you know :)
