Case Mod Contest
« on: February 14, 2013, 07:47:34 PM »
Hey all, new here, but been around the LAN and PC scene since 1996.  Been trying to make it out to one of your events, but other things have always come up. This year...come hell or high water (or piles of Snow), I will attend my first FITES.   I think one of my favorite things about a LAN is being able to check out all the different builds guys bring. I'm a complete hardware junkie and love modding.  This year for the LAN season, I have built a new rig and I'm really excited to show it off.  I do have a question.  Do you FITES guys have an organized Case Mod Contest? If so, can anybody give me the low-down on how to get entered?   I would post of some pix of my latest build, but it is not finished. OMG, where does the time go?  I been working on this one for the last 2+ months and I find I am STILL running out of time.  Final paint and assembly this weekend, so should be good to go.  Here are a couple of my past builds and a peek at my current project.

Did I just see your green CS case in CPU magazine?  I swear I saw that hand reflection pic.
That's Mr. Deception to you.

Normally there is a Case-Mod Contest.  Not sure about this year, looks like a keyboard assembly contest.  But at intranet.fites.net where you choose your seat there is a list of tournaments, that is generally where you would find the case-mod contest and sign up!

If there is one, goodluck that thing is looking awesome!!! I'd love to attempt a case mod like that sometime.

Time is NOT my friend, but starting to warm up to me.  :furious:  Got most everything ready to assemble.  Finished all the painting yesterday and still have some smaller stuff to powdercoat. Still waiting on some final items. Paracord and fans should be here tomorrow.  Here are a few updates. Cross your fingers I can get this thing completed in a couple days.

Before and After

Few chassis shots and the front door with backlit LED lighting. (Not gonna get this finished for the LAN..for sure  :bigcry: )

Some shots of all the painted parts.  Used PPG Chrysler Bright White base, Nissan Sharp Silver Pearl mid-coat and topped it all off with a couple coats of Ultra Clear.  Hard to see the pearl under these lights and with my phone camera, so don't mind the pictures. Also,  dust and some orange peel in the topcoat. It will/should look fantastic once I can get over to sand and buff it out. (tomorrow night)

Hey SpeedBump. Yes, there will be an organized Case Mod contest at the LAN.

1.) Sign up:
     - We will have a sign up page on the intranet under tournaments.
     - Deadline will be specified as the scheduled time of the event under tournaments.
     - Note: The intranet is down while we are moving and getting set up for tomorrow.
     - I will post a follow up here once it is in place for sign up.
2.) Prizes:
     - There will be prizes for 1st and 2nd place.
     - Sorry no trophies, just goodies.
     - Prizes are courtesy of CoolerMaster and FITES
3.) Judging:
     - Judging will occur on Saturday after the deadline
     - Please be prepared to show any photos of your build at your seat when the judges are reviewing your case
     - Key criteria considered: Aesthetics, Build Quality, and Creativeness.
     - Safety is also considered. I have seen some bizarre and dangerous builds in my day.
     - If your rig is sparking, shorting out, threatening bodily harm or catch fire, dont expect a win.
     - Judges will be select FITES staff of which I am one.

If anyone has further questions, just let me know.
