Keep The Pens In Pittsburgh
« on: March 07, 2007, 11:12:52 PM »
K,

This is completely off the discussion of gaming and such but I am a huge Pens hockey fan. Recently as you might of heard if u watched ESPN or even the sports on the news, the pens have decided to explore deals with other city's after Rendell was unable to provide a suitable deal for a new arena..

To bring everyone up to speed...The Pens are currently selling out almost every game this season. They have brought in prospects like Sidney Crosby, Evegene Malkin, Jordan Stall and Marc Andre Fluery which have been made this team one of the best improved teams in the NHL. The Pens have had a slump for the past 7 years since there Eastern championship loss against the devils during the 99-00 season. For the first time since then, they've been competing for a possible top spot in the playoffs. They've went from the worst team to best in a matter of a year and has all Pens fans reborn and on edge for a possible deep playoff run and serious contention for the cup

Anyways, Rendell has been jerking the Penguins around with offering them a new arena. It looked like the deal was going to get done, but the governor has been dragging his feet and nothing has been finalized. It appeared that he was playing with the Pens, thinking they had to take the deal he was offering because they had no where else to go.

That however has not been the case...Kansas City has offers on the table to move the Pens to KC in return giving the Pens all NHL revenue earned. Just a few hours, they increased there deal with the Pens by giving them partial ownership to the arena as well..giving them 50% of all revenue received by concessions and stands on top of the 100% they make through the NHL. In short..this deal is just an amazing one, and it appears that KC is seriously trying to buy the Pens out of Pittsburgh

Mario Lemiuex and company have already agreed that they wish to remain loyal to the fans and people of Pittsburgh and keep the Pens here. However the governor has to stop jerking the Pens around and give the Pens the arena they need in order to stay in the Burgh. So anyways, tensions have been very tight and both sides have not talked since a recent argument over a month ago which resulted in a standstill

Tomorrow both sides will meet for most likely the final time in hopes of reaching a deal to keep the Pens here. If something is not reached in Philly tomorrow, then the Pens will be taking up AEG and there offer and will be moving to KC (long as it is approved by Gary Bettmen....NHL commissioner)

So in short to this long post and one that I doubt anyone will reply to because i don't think a lot of you guys are sports fans, let alone Penguins fans..Keep your fingers crossed around 6pm when this meeting happens that something is able to be worked out and the Pens are able to stay here where they belong and where the fans want them to belong.
