There is a toggle zoom... but you have to edit one of the cfg's or ini's.  Google it...it's out there somewhere.  To get a better FPS you have to tone down the draw distance.  It's in the same ini or cfg...again google is how I found it.

EDIT: Found this

Quote
You may have already done this, but you can manually change your draw distance via your useroptions.ini file found within your PS2 directory folder (steam).

Maximum distance, afaik, is =3000, all depends on your PC's capabilities.

EDIT2:  The zoom toggle is also in that file:

AutoDetectPerformanceSettings=0
ZoomToggle=1
MouseSensitivity=0.410000
InvertVerticalLook=1
InvertVerticalFly=1
ReduceInputLag=1
FixedMinimap=0
Profanity=0

flippin sweet.  I set Profanity to 1 :D

Fixed Minimap=0 i assume has your guy fixed and the map rotates like BF does correct?  The fixed minimap always disorients me.

Thanks man!

So what frames are you guys running at with your video cards and draw distance?

GTX570 - draw distance 1000 -40fps ish.

EDIT:

Just loaded up the game again and during firefights im around 50-55.  Much better.   Toggle zoom helps alot as well. Thanks!

I assume you guys also changed VerticalFOV to 90 right?  Default is 55 and it feels like terrible tunnel vision.

So after editing my settings in the INI last night I was ready to go but found my framerate still limited to < 30fps when in a populated area.

After reading around I found that the entire game runs on 2 threads.  I verified this crudely by watching cpu utlization on the process and sure enough it never used more than 25% of my cpu.  On my quad core i7 930 with 8 available cores 25% would be 2 threads.

This is very disheartening.  I was skeptical about the draw distance setting because no matter what resolution or graphics settings I used I never saw an increase in frames.  So the only way to increase framerates would be to increase the clock speed of my cpu.  I'm not going to start overclocking simply for one game.

This sucks because its a pretty fun game.  While I might be able to live with the game in its current state, I dont think it will gain any overall support from us as a whole. I'm no programmer but I dont think something like this can be fixed by patching.

I had alot of fun last night playing in a 3 squad platoon running around capturing facilities.  :(

I know the server most of us were playing on "Jaeger" was merged with another. It's a US East cost server called "Watterson".
Eventually something cool will go in here. It's a matter of time.

^Yep thats where we got moved.  I was worried that we would somehow get split up.  Glad to see everyone is on the same server at least.

We can try, but you know we have some framerate diva's in our group who arent satisfied unless they're running over 100fps all the time.

Its too bad too.  Its alot of fun.  But if there is ONE thing I learned last night its that you absolutely CANNOT trust the guy on your flank.

Has me curious what my frame rate is. I never checked it with my setup.

At the warp gate you can probably get a decent framerate.  I get anywhere from 80-100fps at the warp gate.  But once in action it goes down the crapper.

Very good to know, thanks Mahoney, will make my guy on the Watterson server tonight.

I used to be all about graphics, but now I admit I'm a framerate diva as you so eloquently put krakah, gotta get dem FRAMESSS (I blame gri3v for this!) -- will report back with how PS2 runs for me, especially before/after tweaking ini files etc.

It seems I got back into this game with the worst timing.

https://twitter.com/mhigby/status/313867312006574080

All my fuss the past couple of days has been due to a bug in a recent update.  I copied Broken's ini settings and loaded up the game to see that there was a ~34MB patch.  Not sure if this is the patch referenced in the tweet or not but framerates were better for me.  Still not near 70fps in heavy action.  Maybe our definitions of heavy action is different?  I'm talking about a full on zerg vs zerg.  I wasnt able to get a full zerg on zerg tonight but did see some decent action (video coming later) and my frames were around 50ish, which is do-able for me.

Assuming it was the patch that fixed it perhaps I can lower some of the ini settings a little more and squeeze some more frames.

EDIT:

We ended losing the facility.  You can tell I'm not used to the weapon orders.  I kept getting mixed up between guns while switching between them.

What happened last night Krakah? I couldn't hear much due to all the explosions and fire inside the bio lab so not sure if you were trying to talk towards the end of the fire fight. The last time I saw you, you were going off the one landing pad just before I crashed a galaxy into all those door campers.

zerg on zerg is hard depending on how much map control is happening. You can only get main battle tanks if you control certain facilities, otherwise you can only get them from your warp gate. Most players are reluctant to fall back that far, but that's what good team coordination can provide. If you fall back for a good range of armor and air support you can make a good counter to a zerg rush.
