Title: Physix card

To get or not to get?  Please add your thoughts.  At this point I say no, but maybe I am missing something.

Can anyone note significant performance boost or decline when using the card?

I just read a article where John carmack states tht theres nothing a ppu(physics processing unit) can do that a multi-core porcessor can't do better and it's easier for developers to write it into one of the threads of a game.  He states that maybe in the future a ppu will have better use.  The author of that article goes on to say that UT3 may be the deal breaker as they are supporting it but at what degree is still unknown.  So i would just wait for that game to release.

I still think PPU's are a money sink at this point. I don't think there's enough specific PPU optimization being coded into the engines as there should be. Not enough to buy a separate card.

As for UT3, Epic has said they are supporting AGEIA PhysX, but it is certainly not needed. As in, it won't add a surprising amount of new detail to the game.

i wont even remain optimistic about this subject being as game companies must pay to use agea physix and with multi core cpus are free for developers to use and most gamers are begining to use 2 and 4 cores as a standard so i can see stand alone physix cards not lasting to long and it wont be to much longer till we begin to see duel core graphics cards at least i think. i guess that would be sli on a single card. so quad in actual sli.

Well here's the latest video of the PhysX card and UT3... looks cool, but I still stand by by thoughts that it's a money sink.

travis, instead of getting a physics card get a quad core cpu.

agreed..with quad cores on the horizon...Physics cards are slowly on the up and outs..I was debating it as well but there isn't enough games that support ageia and the cost is just too much for what you get. That and I've read numerous threads of random game crashes with them enabled. You'd be better off spending the extra green on a quad core
