Title: Nvidia 7xx series
Post by: vincegun on August 14, 2012, 07:19:26 AM
Soooo.... when do you folks think these bad boys will be announced and then actually arrive? I saw the video of the cryengine3 tech trailer and I decided I'd actually make an effort to get a top-tier gpu because of how good that game could actually look.

I'm guessing somewhere around the first quarter of 2013. I am looking forward to my next build with the 7xx series GPU's and the new Intel Haswell Processors around this time next year.

Hmph. Was hoping it'd be sooner, what with the world ending in december and junk.

the days of updating every product cycle are long gone for me.  I wish i could but the cost is too much.

Understandable. My 580s and AMD 965BE are still kicking ass just fine. I figured by this time next year we should see some of the nicer Haswells getting released as well as the higher end 7xx cards. That would be worthy of a new build for me. I plan of putting my current equipment into a new "project" I came up with so it isn't too much of a burden since I'll be saving myself a few bucks by recycling. Then it's time to wait a few more years again.

It looks more and more the GK110 part has always been intended as a compute card and the GK104 has always been the 6 series video cards.

If anything we may see a refresh or some mid range cards dropping in November, and 3Q 2013 for 7 series.  There is no pressure from ATi/AMD right now, nVidia has the performance, price/performance, performance/watt, and thermal performance crown (or whatever Nvidia/ATi fetishists want to pretend their brand is winning).

The 7990 HD has seen some setbacks, but I am hoping it comes out soon.

"Nvidia's GTX 600 series has finally hit the $300 mark, putting it in the acceptable price range of everyone who doesn't permanent WASD impressions stuck to their hands. The GeForce GTX 660 Ti is out today, and will also come with a free copy of Borderlands 2.

The GTX 660 should perform about twice as well as the 460, and a significant notch above the 550 as well. It's also probably about the lowest price point on the GTX series that will run current games, like The Secret World, at a full 60 fps with all of Nvidia's graphical treatments turned on, like PhysX and TXAA."

1344 Cuda cores, 915mhz base clock, 980mhz boost clock and 2gb memory at 192bit. The 670 is pretty much the same thing (I looked over newegg) except for it runs at 2gb memory at 256bit and it costs about $100 more. WTF. Think I'll just save a bit longer for a 680, then.
