need some advice
« on: December 22, 2009, 12:55:56 PM »
Now i am not trying to be a downer...
i just signed up for the LAN on the 26th. I was wondering if i should bring things to lock things up including my peripherals (keyboard 150$, mouse 50$) and just other things that are expensive and i dont want to get taken from me. Is this a common problem at these things? cause i have never been to a bigger LAN that wasnt just with close friends. Any feedback is appreciated! see you all there. :)

If you have any doubts that your stuff will get stolen. Then pack it up when you go to sleep, out to eat, what have you. Last year there were a few things stolen. Most extreme was someones cellphone. Just use common sense and you will be fine. What I like to do is sit with people I know from past events.

As Tibs said, we try to get everyone to use 'the buddy system'.  Ultimately, you are responsible for your own equipment/property.  But if you are sitting with friends or whatnot then it would be easy to spot someone messing with or taking something that is yours or your friends' stuff.  If you do spot someone who does not have permission to be touching/using your things, report it to a staff member immediately.

I am not sure about things getting stolen last year (at least I did not hear of it).  The worst I heard was someones headphone cushioning being taken.  All in all we usually do NOT have issues with thievery.
That's Mr. Deception to you.

We also have a `one way in, one way out`, flow of the room so people can't be sneaking out side doors to leave the gaming area.

Also, I think the cellphone was a misplacement. I believe that person found it outside... The only thing stolen was Demon's headphone pad. And that was just a jerk move. I mean not even the whole headset... Just the pad across the top.

I'm bringing a hungry doberman pincher with me, chaining him to my rig, and slapping him around a bit before leaving my seat :hehemean:

Seriously though, Crap can happen so always expect the unexpected and have a game plan as Fites don't take responsibility for personal property. Yes, last year one of our clanmates got his cell phone liberated and the year before a large usb stick disappeared, so it happens but it's pretty rare as there's eyes everywhere. We gamers as a whole are decent and too ourselves people, but there's always an exception. I honestly don't think someone would have the gonads to unhook and heist someones keyboard and mouse as were all there to have fun and enjoy each others company. Also note, and I think I can speak for Fites on this, the Fites crew, myself, and I'm positive plenty other regulars would be glad to take the law into our own hands at the lan if someone is caught stealing at the event. I'm positive immediate banning from the current and all future events would be set forth as stealing is the ultimate sin at a lan, I think it's even above and beyond being a h4x0r....

lmao thanks for the replys guys! and that IS SO FUNNY! hahahaha.. yeah i would hope since were in a somewhat civilized profession (gaming and computers) that everyone would be trust worthy. i have a lock for my rig so nothing inside it goes missing :) but im a little worried about peripherals so ill bring maybe a smaller trunk of some kind.

Bring a sword and keep it laying next to your seat at all times. Also, bring a fancy knife and keep it strapped to your shoe/boot. You know..... just in case.

In the end, a grenade can be used to end all problems.

Me? I'm planning on throwing my sister at anyone that tries to take anything from my little area. It's one thing to get thrown out of a lan for stealing a keyboard, but it's another thing to be beat down by a pregnant chick that works in a tattoo shop.

I just take certain measures at large lans. I use a trackball where the ball is easily liftable, so whenever I leave my pc, I just pocket the ball. Of course, I doubt anybody would steal a trackball in general anyways :P

I just picked up one of these... it slides in real nice like... http://highadventureoutfitters.com/hao_images/neil_roberts1_d.jpg
A Serbian Film
"James Cameron doesn't do what James Cameron does for James Cameron. James Cameron does what James Cameron does because James Cameron is... James Cameron."
What if bodies just had random errors like computers do?
You go to receive your Starbucks coffee and accidentally punch the Barista in the face then Crap on the floor.
What kind of Fudgeing computer errors are you getting?

DO NOT bring a knife or sword or any weapon for that matter.  I know Vince is joking but I have to cover our ass....
