Mighty Quest for Epic Loot

Hey Guys,

So I got into the closed BETA from Ubisoft on this game and I figured I'd write a little about it. Website below:

https://www.themightyquest.com/en/welcome

So basically it's a hack and slash Diablo / Torchlight style game with a PVP Dungeon Defender mechanic.

  • You Get a Castle
  • You Summon Bad Guys and Traps to Protect Your Castle
  • Other Players Have to Figure out how to get Through your Castle, Defeating the Baddies within a Specific Time Given (2 Minutes if Memory Serves Me)

The fact that whether or not you succeed is based on how fast you clear the castle is pretty interesting. Some players will just bombard you with a bunch of baddies that you have to clear while others purchase a ton of rooms and makes the raid into a 2D Top down maze. Each creature you summon has 3 specialties which it can perform. The thing I didnt like however is that you can't specify one group of creatures one speciality and another group to another one completely different.

Example:

The one monster is a witch doctor. You can either have the witch doctor heal other monsters, summon more monsters or enrage all the monsters in a specific area to be more deadly and do more dps. If you say one witch is a healer, then they all heal. You can not specify roles down to the unit which is kinda crappy and limits your creativity when coming up with the perfect defense system.

The other annoying thing is how limited you are with the amount of monsters you can spawn. You are limited to a defense rating of X per section of the castle. You can not exceed X defense rating. In turn, each monster has a defense rating of Y. Lets say you have chickens you can spawn which are worth a defense of 2, zombies which are a defense of 4. You could only put in maybe 7 chickens and 4 zombies in a defense rating of 30 for the entire room. This limits you but makes you really have to think to be creative on monster placement and strategy.

I have leveled my archer now to lvl 7 and it's fun. The game overall is pretty easy to pick up. It's very cartoonie and has a TF2 type feel to it. I'll prob continue to play in the closed BETA. I can see the gameplay being very repetitive after a while. I'm used to grinding things out with WoW and Torchlight.

So you go around, collect gold and lifestone (currency used to upgrade your castle) and collect loot and try to defeat other players / PvE castles. You get loot drops like you would in Diablo which in turn increases your stats and help you to become more powerful in order to level up and move on. I think the game has a max level of 50, but it definitely would take some grinding to get to.

If anyone else is in this BETA, let me know. We can add each other to the friends list and maybe do some achievements for the LOLZ. That's all I have for now. I may upload a gameplay video to Youtube if anyone is interested in seeing the game in action.

I played for a bit and leveled a knight up to 7. It's a bit laggy at times, such as when I went to swap out gear, I would have to drop the gear into the slot 4 or 5 times before it finally took. I noticed a bit of lag when I was running through some castles as well, but nothing that would cause me to be unable to play or die for no reason.

One of the things I can see becoming a bit of an issue is an in game currency called "bling". While yes you can earn it for completing major objectives throughout the game, you can also buy it with real money. It is mostly used for completing upgrades instantly instead of waiting the 30 min to an hour depending on what upgrade level your at.

Overall though the concept is different, and the overall gameplay is fun, but it could get quite repetitive and grindy quick. Good, fun time killer.
