Microsft tries again......Epic fail??
« on: January 08, 2009, 08:32:23 AM »
Microsoft is abandoning efforts to fix Vista and to launch "BEST Windows OS yet".  Sounds like a Ripley's Believe it or not.

Aren't they basically admitting with saying that, that Vista was a failure and they are trying to replace it as soon as possible?  XP came out in 2001 and it is still the OS of choice for a lot of people.   Hopefully Windows 7 will go back to the idea of XP and be a stable, solid OS that will stick around for 7 or 8 years again.

Think back a few years... Windows 98/2000 were decent OSes then came along this AWESOME new OS Windows ME, when it turned out to be a pile of Crap what did they do?  Oh ya that's right, nothing.  They would much rather spend all the money they are making on advertising, rather than fixing the Crap product that they are advertising.  The real fix comes in when they get you to buy another OS to fix the Crap one they sold you in the first place.

Rinse, repeat.  I have learned to expect nothing less from the big guys.

I never remember Windows ME being billed as the next great OS.  I remember it just being a hyped up service pack for 98 that even bill gates said was a mistake.  Windows 2000 was a great OS because it was the start of the NT based OS's for the non domain systems.  It just took forever to boot.

I bought Windows 3.1 back in the day. Win95, 98, ME (yes I had a comp with it), XP, Vista, 7, all this.. just updates. We should get them for free as updates. :)

Where were you when they were touting it as the next greatest thing for a media PC?

I think you are thinking MCE.  ME was the Windows 98 upgrade that had system restore and windows movies maker.  It wasn't designed for a media PC.  It was a desktop OS.  Only offered for a year.

That's a big 10-4 negative good buddy.

Windows ME gave you video editing software through Windows updates (I used it to make quite a few videos back in the day) along with their other media options.  I believe it was called Windows Movie Maker (as you mentioned) when it first came out.

Microsoft was all about the additional media accessories that were included with ME (just another marketing move), when in reality they included only a few generic apps with the default installs.

I am well aware of the differences between ME and MCE, as I was considering it (MCE) when I was building my HTPC, but thanks for the refresher.
