Yeah saw this yesterday. I'm not sold on this yet. It's cool, but I don't see this as being a viable option for AAA game engines. They make no mention about animation.. and I can tell you, NO ONE would want to weight paint a character rig of 500,000 polys or more. Hell, a 12k character is frustrating as Crap. Yeah, cg movie characters do have poly counts upwards of 500k-1m, but you only have to rig a couple of those. Games are a different matter.

And then there is the point that this particular tech (this exact project) has been in development since 2003, and it really hasn't changed that much since then. All this current buzz around it is just a resurgence; most likely pushed so it could be seen by investors.

But we'll see. I'm not holding my breath.

Sounds like another project offset (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Offset_Software) to me too.

Yeah, except Project Offset showed MAJOR potential; A lot more than this thing. There was actual proof of concept and Intel Fudgeed it up. The technology looked pretty solid. I'm very bitter about that whole thing.

Actually doing more reading up on this, skeletal mesh animation seems to be out of the question. This is actually a voxel-based engine, doesn't deal with polygons at all. It just converts poly meshes to voxel, which strips any possibility of having an object with a bone structure(characters/weapons/vehicles/etc).

Notch describes the other flaws in this engine much better than I can: http://notch.tumblr.com/post/8386977075/its-a-scam (http://notch.tumblr.com/post/8386977075/its-a-scam)

Euclideon & Unlimited Detail - Bruce Dell Interview (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JVB1ayT6Fdc#ws)

apparently this video talks about all the misconceptions that people are having about the tech.  show it in real time too!

Alright so that does clear up some stuff. It does seem neat, but I'm still wary about it. If they can get some artists to show off capability on par with current game gen stuff, then I might put some of that doubt aside, because as it looks now, it's pretty damn ugly.
