The good news is DOTA 2, and TF2 are free to play and there is always a crowd ready to play some TF2 shenanigans. Also, the Steam christmas sale is on now(ish) so games like Killing Floor, Borderlands 2, and CS:GO will be sure to have a discount.

If EA offers a sale, BF4 is another good choice.
