LAN Question
« on: February 11, 2010, 11:11:21 PM »
Maybe I'm not remembering correctly, but I thought I remembered Comcast being at the LAN last year and providing (50? Mbit) access, is that right?

If so, are they coming again? This is really just a curiosity thing, not like I spent a lot of time on an outside connection while at the LAN. But I thought I remembered a fairly excellent connection last year.

IIRC yes it was 2 50Mb docsys modems.  Nice speedy connection.  Actually after that LAN I contacted the comcast rep that was there and dropped my DSL in favor of some nice 16Mb down/6Mb up cable internet.

It was definitely a sweet connection. Almost felt odd not getting choked out, especially with so many people.

We started the LAN last year with 2 50mb connections that were load balanced, but the NIC I was using for the second connection kept crapping out on me, so I pulled that out of the mix late Friday night, so we truly only used 1 50mb connection last year for most of the time. This year I didn't have time to really test a load balanced setup, so we'll just be going with the single 50mb connection again this time.
Please just walk away. I don't want to have to stand here and say something so awesome that I'll have to remember it the rest of the day. Thank you!

which is funny because I STILL had to get a few of my steam games AND I bought one (either left 4 dead or lost planet was on special at that particular time) and all the downloads were lightning fast.
