Originated first by id software in the game Quake. It's short for giblets (thus pronounced “jib”), and referred to the bloody remains of slain opponents. Eventually the word was verbed, and leaked into general usage afterward.

If you play with xankriz, you're going to get burned.

dude xan, i've already explained it to these crazy people. I even uploaded a soundfile on the fites upload page from UT2004. A sound file that as also used in UT99.

Now if i could only find that upload page again...
