Well I found out from my insurance they will cover my equipment but not my friends laptop. Since she insisted on including in the police report that it was hers I can't lie to the insurance company and have her machine replaced. Luckily she doesn't blame me and due to the wireless problems her laptop was having (long story) she was thinking of just getting a netbook anyway. Unfortunately there is a $500 deductible so I will not get the full $2,000 my laptop was worth. Luckily a friend at iogaming.net just got a new desktop gaming rig and is selling me his 6 month old gaming notebook. Interestingly enough it is built on the same platform as my M17 except it has a higher resolution screen, better cpu, 2 1/2 years still left on the warranty, and dual 3870 GPUs as opposed to my M17s single gpu. And he's selling it to me for $1,400 + shipping. So I am a little happier now. I Did back up all the important stuff like my music, pics, vids, etc and my e-mail and browser passwords are password protected. I'm seriously thinking of using some form of hard drive encryption on the new laptop just in case this happens again, and getting a physical locking device to lock it down should I have to leave it in my building again sometime.
Funny how you take security more seriously after something like this happens. My wife always gave me Crap because I kept that laptop password protected on bootup and changed the password every month or so.
