Sounds like Sam Dubs is taking advantage of you. :shakeno:   I make $20 fixin the neibors computer every time he has a problem I would charge him more but he is poor so I settle for $20.

You should ask for a raise and if you don't get it, threaten to call the IRS for paying you under the table.

The only problem is that some money is better than no money.  Altho, it does sound a little low.  I assume he is charging a diagnostic fee, along with a fee of at least 35/hour.  Purely assumptions tho.

All i can do is pray that people leave their computers on during a storm. The Mount Holly store had 22 computers after that last big storm we had. Most of them were fried.

See and I did a side job yesterday... I only fixed one machine in three hours and pocketed $300. BTW Tekie you would have loved this one! It was a linux server and someone decided to run the following commands, AS ROOT, then reboot.
chmod -R 700 /etc
chmod -R 600 /var
chmod -R 600 /opt

LOL where do people come up with these good ideas!?

wow, just wow, wow

thats why stupid people shouldn't use root

I'm currently trying to break the habit slackware has gotten me into of running root, I still normally have a shell open, but not as bad.

Still my fav "housecall" was installing a new hdd in a compaq, and running the included restore CD's (previous drive died.) Made like $60 for about half an hour of real work (sat and leeched neighbors wifi on my laptop while it installed and I fed it discs)

edit: who has a linux server in their house, and knows how to do that and NOT know that will seriously break things, even though I can't talk, back in the redhat days I did something like this (as root) while trying to add a seccond hdd "mkfs /dev/hda" rebooted, and wondered why I got massive error messages.
