Title: I'm a sad panda
Post by: gravdigr on February 10, 2008, 03:14:32 PM
So last night we wanted to watch a movie.  I have netflix and through it's view on demand service we decided to watch grindhouse.  So I hook my laptop up to our 5 month old 32" lcd tv, the movie played fine.  So this morning I go to turn on the tv and nothing, it's stuck in standby.  After some searching on google I come to find this is a common problem as somehow a power surge through the d-sub cable can screw up the mainboard and or power supply.  From what I have read if you want to use the tv as a monitor for a computer the safest thing is to use the hdmi port and a converter to connect to your pc.  Wish I had known this yesterday  :wail:

I haven't had the issue with the Westy.. But I did tell you the one issue you I have is that will sometimes come out of sync when it changes resolution... Just turn it off and on again or change inputs and it's fine.

Unplug the tv for the day and see if it resets to factory settings or whatnot.

Did the unplug for a day thing and nada.  I guess the problem stems from plugging and unplugging inputs while the tv is on.  I dunno exactly what TVs are affected but I know polaroid and I have seen posts about sharp and vizio doing this as well.
