Valve canceled their portal 2 demo at E3 to announce a surprise, this is known. This image/story just broke today, it could be the cruelest hoax ever.
Half Life > All other games ever

Even more hinting, after this many years I hope its HL3, valve is releasing a new engine soon and the HL has been their flagship. During the portal 2 alt reality game there were references to Half-Life.

Would definitely be epic if it is announced.
-
It would be no surprise. Remember how HL2 was hush-hush for most of its development time? Valve revealed it when it was almost done. However, it was later delayed due to the infamous source(sorry, terrible pun) code leak. ATI was forced to bundle CS:S with its free HL2 coupons for its 9xxx series.
Valve is long overdue for an engine update. Source engine is already eight years old, although it has aged fairly well.
-
Because they've continued to update the engine.
-
So long as they don't say, "OH, we're bundling certain things together so you can get the ones you want" and then turning around and saying, "OH, nevermind... this is what we're actually doing" AND THEN a couple years later, offering what they originally announced.
I only wanted to pay for the black box, and get EP1 and 2. I didn't care much about getting Portal (at the time), I wasn't and still am not crazy about TF2 and I certainly didn't need an extra copy of HL2 laying around. Unfortunately, they only gave us the orange box. That's not to say that the cost wasn't worth it for the bundle, I just didn't want to be forced to pay for something I didn't want to play.
-
You could just buy the games separately on steam. The orange box was a crazy deal but it wasn't forced on you.

Hehehe....EP3 is NOT the big surprise.

Looks as though the speculation that Half-Life 2: Episode 3 would be Valve's "big surprise" come E3 2010 was shot down in fiery flames.
-
Half Life 3 then? Gabe said that the episodes were a huge mistake.
