program to run applications as a service
« on: December 15, 2006, 09:19:02 AM »
I'm currently setting up my LAN server.  It will be running a web server for patches/ISOs, etc since a web server is more universal and works better than windows spotty file sharing.  It will also be running a teamspeak server and a few other apps.  I would like this server to be persistant ie if the power blinks or it has to reboot for some reason it will start up and run my apps without me logging in.  In order to do this I need a program that will run apps as a service.

So basically do any of you know of or can hook me up with a program that will do this, preferably free as I pretty much burnt my surplus funds on a couple hard drives for the server ( 2 x 250G drives striped).  I have checked my usual sources and came up with nothing but a few trojan horse viruses
ASUS rampage 2 mobo
i7 920 @ 3.2GHZ
6GB DDR3
Dual 5770s
2x 250GB striped
1x 500GB backup
1x 160GB misc data
Danger Den watercooling for cpu and GPUs

Also look into FireDaemon. http://www.firedaemon.com/

It works rather well and has lots of options. Currently I know that I am using after I switched the linux CS server over to Win2k3 server and that HKPhooey uses it with the KoS server(s?).

A bit off topic bit since it is my topic who cares....

You said you are running 2k3 server?  Have you had any driver issues with it?  I tried running it but had some trouble with drivers for the radeon 7200 all in wonder card (server is also my tv), also it didn't like the drivers for the onboard sound.  I can't find drivers specific for 2k3, but I assume since it is built on NT like winxp that xp drivers 'should' work.

I finally broke down and installed xp just so I could get my tv back, but if I can get the driver issues straightened out and learn exactly how to use server (so much security stuff) I can dual boot until I am comfortable enough to just dump xp alltogether.

The XP drivers should work, but I don't know much about the TV thing... I assume that it would use a directx overlay and you would have to enable directx acceleration on the video card. (Off by default)

I have also used this in the past and it has worked quite well for me.
Please just walk away. I don't want to have to stand here and say something so awesome that I'll have to remember it the rest of the day. Thank you!
