As Czar already pointed out, its not really possible to have a dedicated server physically at the LAN. It sucks that they don't have built in support to host via LAN, but I guess with DRM and piracy and whatnot, more and more games are taking out the built in LAN support of old in favor of online only.
We are preparing for our upcoming LAN for New Year's and we will let you guys know how the server holds up for us. I have read that BFBC2 can be a problem for more than 10 people on the same network, as random disconnects will occur when more people join. We MAY have found a solution to this however. I found a few threads online that suggest creating a shortcut to the BFBC2 exe from your steam directory, and then in the shortcut launch properties add in +clientport 27018 to the target line and just change the last two digits for each person so that everyone has their own unique port they are using. I know its kind of a pain to do that for a large amount of people, but this past weekend I had a few friends over for a mini LAN and we tested this out and it did seem to work for us...whereas before we were getting the disconnects with just 3 of us on the same network.
From what we have seen...once you get everyone in the server, it seems to be fine, its just sometimes initially getting everyone in that can be an issue.
You guys are obviously more than welcome to use the server however you like for your LAN coming up in Feb. I will most likely be there along with a few RN guys and we can try and help out with it in any way that we can. I will post another thread here after the LAN to let you know how the server was after our LAN.
