Title: Help
Post by: Zimmy on February 15, 2010, 07:44:55 PM
Okay so I have a friend who just switched to Windows 7 and hates it. She wants to switch back to vista but has no disc. She does however have the CD Key for windows vista. How would i go about getting a disc. Or would any of you have one and be willing to let me bum it.

You can order a media kit from MS. Not sure of the cost.

Really?!  Vista over Win7?  Wow.  Yeah, torrent the install ISO of a full install NOT the upgrade.  I think the install media is able to install all versions of vista including OEM...the CD key should determine what version the installer will....install.

i personally wouldn't trust torrenting it.  Unless you can get the md5 hash from the genuine iso image and make sure the one you downloaded matches... i just wouldn't trust it.

Try here to see if your cdkey works and qualifies to have MS ship you a new dvd:  http://www.microsoft.com/windowsvista/1033/ordermedia/default.mspx (http://www.microsoft.com/windowsvista/1033/ordermedia/default.mspx)  i'm sure there will be a $10-$20 fee for shipping.  But this will only work for retail cdkeys.

For OEM, you will require an OEM disc.  Same for upgrade-only discs.  However, for each... the edition (home premium, professional, ultimate, etc) doesn't matter as they are all on every disc.  If the cdkey she has is on the side (or bottom) of her computer, then it is OEM, and you'll need an OEM disc from someone.
