I saw it this afternoon, and after being surrounded by 2 starwars fanatics for 7 years I must say i'm kinda dissapointed. Yes, it did tell the story, but it had weak dialogue. And I think they overkilled the CGI. Granted, it was starwars, so it still has a warm spot in my heart. Even if lucas has given up

- And, hands-down, the best link-up to "Star Wars" moment that I enjoyed the most: Bail Organa and Yoda stepping into the hallway of the Rebel Blockade Runner that opened "Star Wars". Unlike all the high-tech CGI wizardry of the rest of the prequel Trilogy, this is a low-tech looking set, right out of circa '77, and for some reason, it really captured my imagination. I mean, this is the same exact hallway in which we got our first look at Vader, oh so many years ago, and I appreciated the hell out of Mr. Lucas including it - because it really felt like a nod to the hardcores.
This was the coolest moment in the film, with the seccond being the very end scene. Lucas needed to make the entire film these moments. And I reall feel that lucas needed to focus on the storytelling, the original trilogy didn't have hunders of gigahertz of processing power beind them, they had creativity and an amazing storyline. The new trilogy (ep 1-3) have neither, they have lucas trying to cash in on the francheise and show off how much they can do in the editing bay. These movies can be as flashey and as prety as they want to be, but without content or creativity they just become your everyday spacemovie.
The one other thing that has puzzled me in the new 3 films (ep 1-3) is some of the design elements. Like for example, there is no possible way some of these characters could have evolved to the form they are in now. Also it seems lucas had lost the creativity in the last 3 films sticking with humanoid based characters (compared to some of the greats like the hutts.) And some of the ships are very poorly designed, like having huge doors to let a tiny starfighter out. Coursecant was very well designed though, and I give lucas lots of credit to making it look right.
thats all for now on my rant, it seems bipolor but I hope I get my point across. Being a major fan of the original trilogy, I really had a level of expectation of the new ones, which i was dissapointed not to have seen. But to quote my mom "The first 3 are an amazing act to follow, and you'd be crazy to expect them to do so, with the originals being way ahead of their time."
ok, done for real now
