Hacked mah Wii
« on: August 21, 2009, 11:38:42 PM »
Via this link (http://lifehacker.com/5342733/hack-your-wii-for-homebrew-without-twilight-princess) I've gone and "hacked" my Wii into accepting the homebrew channel.

Neat stuff. Emulators work great and video playback with a build of Mplayer is great. Took a few minutes on how to figure out exactly how to edit a smb.conf file, but now I have streaming video over my wireless network on my Wii! It doesn't do 720p stuff very well (as one would imagine) and that seemed to depend on the particulars of the actual encode, but it DOES play it (kinda) after buffering it. As far as regular SD stuff... simple cartoon or tv show rips... flawless. Smoooooooth playback.

Neat stuff, eh?

Looks simple enough. Which emulators work? (names not systems)

I did this a couple of days after I  got my Wii.  I loaded the backup loader channel so i can play burned games and don't have to worry about ruining my real game discs.

I've got fce ultra gx, genesis plus gx, hugo gx (pc-engine), snes9x gx and vba gx for the emus. i ran through a couple games on each and playback was 100%. It crashed with what seemed a bunch of memory access errors from time to time, but it was completely random and was solved by hitting the reset button which just brought it back to the root homebrew channel.

Same here, but I never got PAL discs to work, but then again, they shouldn't... LOL

Anyone have detailed instructions for installing the backup loader to allow the playing of burned games (backups of my current games)? I see many online but comments always talk about a multitude of errors being thrown. 2011 or whatever. Suggestions from those here that have it working?

It took me a number of tries to get it working correctly.  I copied a game and kept trying different versions till it started.  I still have all the files on m SD Card if you need a copy, I can pm them to you.
