GXL LAN Roomies?
« on: August 27, 2014, 04:23:25 PM »
This isn't exactly an advertisement for another LAN, so I am posting this one here.

Is anyone else in the FITES Community going to GXL in October? I am getting ready to book a hotel reservation and was wondering what people valued more: 1) closer to the event? 2) cheaper in overall cost? 3) Easy access to hookers and blow?

The LAN is in October so I will be booking soon.
Eventually something cool will go in here. It's a matter of time.

After the run-in I had with their pint sized rent-a-cops at the last LAN I'll never step foot in another one of their events again.

Sounds like an interesting story....care to share details?
Please just walk away. I don't want to have to stand here and say something so awesome that I'll have to remember it the rest of the day. Thank you!

Agree 100% with krakah.  I was there with him and a few others for that particular event.  I have been to the GXL numerous times myself and certainly won't be going to any more.

sully - long story short at the last event we went to was that one of the guys from our group had pre-paid and then wasn't able to attend since he got sick that day.  So, since krakah lives within 5 miles of the event, we gave him a call and convinced him to go.  We were in the BF3 5v5 tournament and we needed a 5th due to the original guy not being able to go.  Before he arrived, we cleared it with the GXL staff that it would be alright for krakah to basically inherit our other guy's seat that was already paid for.

So, he shows up, we explained everything again, and they allow him to enter.  However, the problem was that they didn't actually sign him in at the front desk.  So, of course, once we decided to leave, they wouldn't let him because they had no way of proving that it was his own equipment that he was taking.  Despite 3 other people verifying it was his.  We had to basically beg turk to let him leave so that we could all get the hell out of there.

Now, I understand from the event's standpoint where they are coming from on this as they don't want to see anything get stolen obviously, BUT...the way it was handled was a complete joke.  Each time I go to GXL, I get more and more disappointed with the staff more than anything else to be honest.  Krakah can fill in the blanks on that story if he wants to, but that's the jist of it.

I havent wanted to get into a fight since I was like 12 years old but I'll be dammed that was the closest I've come since.  Dont mess with my PC!!! haha.

Everything was cool (at least I thought) until this short dude with a "security" shirt actually stepped directly infront of me with his chest all puffed out.  I was going to have to make two trips for my gear to leave and the guy at first questioned my lack of a badge on the first trip out.  I sat my PC box down explained what happened and he just said he would have to clear it.  Sall good....  I go back to my table and grab my monitor to bring it back to where the rest of my gear is now (at the admin table) and thats when Napoleon invades my personal space and brings on the aggressive tone and posture.  I dont remember at this point what exactly was said but it wasnt pleasant.

In hindsight, probably all I would have had to do was setup my PC quickly at the admin table and log into it.  It would have proved it was mine.  But what happened was a domino effect of unprofessional and clueless behavior by the staff.  From the original ankle biter, to other staff member after staff member who couldnt help after I told them the story.  To finally head honcho coming over and STILL having a problem with me leaving and demanding he take a picture of my license (which I absolutely refused to do btw).  I believe "someone" gave him a fake ID to take a picture of.  I'm sure at some point I wasnt helping the situation either, but I was surrounded by staff members viewing me as a thief with no proof I was one.  I really dont know how far it would have gone had I just said SCREW IT and left with my stuff.  Like I said, I havent even wanted to get into a fight since I was a tween and I gotta save whatever I have left in that department in the event someone kicks my dog, or cuts in front of me at Microcenter.  Priorities....

Whatevs, wont be going again.

What if bodies just had random errors like computers do?
You go to receive your Starbucks coffee and accidentally punch the Barista in the face then Crap on the floor.
What kind of Fudgeing computer errors are you getting?

Looking back on it now, I would have loved to have seen then physically try and stop you. You could have been the new owner of GXL :)
