Got books ?
« on: December 16, 2005, 02:30:27 PM »
Has anybody read anything good lately ? Here's my list of recents:

Angels and Demons by Dan Brown: http://www.danbrown.com/novels/angels_demons/plot.html

The Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown: http://www.danbrown.com/novels/davinci_code/plot.html

Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman: http://www.neilgaiman.com/books/neverwhere_pb.asp (my personal favourite)

And currently reading Splintered (Shattered in the UK) Icon by Bill Napier: http://reviewingtheevidence.com/review.html?id=5456

I highly recommend the 1st 3. They are beyond awesome. In fact, TDVC is also being made into a movie that comes out in May. http://www.apple.com/trailers/sony_pictures/da_vinci_code/

WEE !

Cuzz, if you liked TDVC, I seriously urge you to pick up Angels and Demons. I thought the book was a lot better than TDVC. More action, suspense, etc. I think you'd really like it.

I read The Da Vinci Code last year and just picked up Angels and Demons a couple weeks ago. Very interesting stuff so far. It's just the right blend of science-fiction, suspense, and mystery.
Please just walk away. I don't want to have to stand here and say something so awesome that I'll have to remember it the rest of the day. Thank you!

Anyone else into Clancy?

I read Rainbow Six and Clear and Present Danger. Both were good reads.

Red Storm Rising is next on my list.

I whole-heartedly agree. Just wait, it gets better when the conspiracies start coming up. ;p

Im not a reader.. I mean..I dont often sit down and just read a book. To me, there's better things to do..like..uh..not read? But there is ONE series of books that have caused me to do the opposite of the above..

The first book is called Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card. Its catagorized as Sci-Fi but its none of that mind blowing stuff. Basically, its like 50-100 years in the future and due to a couple attacks from some bug like creatures, Earth has decided to train children to be the next Generals of the forces dedicated to stopping a 3rd invasion. The children are taken from 8yrs old and placed in a space station like school where they have classes..and coolest of all, are divided in to armies of 40 child soldiers and one child general who train and have zero gravity laser gun fights.

The story profiles Ender (real name Andrew) who is chosen at the age of 6 to go to the school due to his maturity and ability. You follow him through the school as he is placed in various armies and battles and has problems with the kids. I dont wanna give away endings or plots but its a great EASY read and had numerous books after it.

A parallel series has been written that profiles the Ender story from a different student on the station.

Of course, after you read Ender's Game, you MUST check out http://www.ansiblemoo.org/ where you can join a MOO (like a MUD, but its pure Role Play and not killing.) There -IS- a working battle room that you can fight in. I've commanded Leopard Army with a fairly impressive battle record. muhaha.

So C`mon. READ IT

Just finished Angels & Demons last night. Now onto Digital Fortress. I know, I'm reading them in reverse order, but I always seem to look at things from the end to the beginning, I don't know why.

Actually, I read them in exactly that order as well. Davinci Code, then Angels and Demons, then Digital Fortress.
