Goodbye 1.5Mb
« on: June 19, 2007, 05:45:26 AM »
Hello 5/2 FiOS line. While it is still the lowest fios plan, I'd say 640KB/s down and 256KB/s up still kicks the crap out of my (late)DSL connection. The Verizon tech will be coming this morning to switch us over. In less than a year, I can foresee myself complaining about how slow 5/2 is. That's how it was when I switched from 56k to DSL

In 5 days I'm switching from Verizon to Comcast (that triple play package thingy). I was planning on waiting out my problems with Verizon DSL (random connection loss, and when you're flying a plane in the middle of a battle it gets to be a little annoying) until FiOS came to my area but it's been over a year since this problem first started occuring. Maybe I'll switch back someday when it's here but after having DSL since 2001, you'd think they'd do more for a longtime customer.

I have the 2MB up and 15MB down line, and I love it. I have had Verizon DSL before I switched over. I am not going back.

Well that's good. Because once you switch from DSL to FiOS, you can't revert back.

But yeah. The speeds I'm getting are very refreshing. Only took the guy 3 hours(a little less actually) for the entire installation. The router they gave us is really nice(well in comparison to our old microsoft one anyways).

On a side note, when he was packing up, he got a call telling him where his next stop was. Apparently they said Coover street(a street parallel to mine), and he started freaking out. He asked me if this was Charles St., I says yeah. And he points to our street sign. Somehow, and I really do not know when that would've happened but our street sign was changed to Coover. I was up till 4am last night and did not hear or see(the sign is in clear view of my bedroom window) anything. Just a little weird.

dude i used to do that in my old neighborhood!  i would sneak out at like 2 in the morning and me and a friend would switch street signs!  it was so funny...   in a cruel sick kind of way.

anyway yeah, i'm on th 15/2 and i love it.  i had comcast before and the difference is like night and day.  i run servers out of my house alot so i needed the upstream.   i HAD a problem with the router they gave me.  some weird brand, that did wireless too.  it would never do port forwards correctly, so i just ended up using it as a coax to ethernet bridge (they used fiber to coax because of MOCA i.e. fios TV) and i'm running a linux router for everything.  i even got a 2mbit jump!  i run at 17 to 18mbit down now!  i stay steady at the 2mbit up though.
awww...   i wanted to explode...

Congrats, you are gonna love it.

GIRunit are you sure you didn't get the upgrade to 20/5?  I got the 15/2 deal and a few months ago I got a letter saying I was now 20/5, no extra charge, thank you verizon.

I got myself a WRT350n (Running DD-WRT) because my old router only had a 10Mb WAN port and the actiontech router dies whenever you hit it with a ton of requests at the same time, searching for CS servers took me out for ~5minutes.  You know you got some bandwidth to play with when a regular router cannot cut it.

I moved a few months ago and got comcast triple play. I'm paying less now than I was for just cable and internet before. I saw this yesterday. New triple play subscribers get a free DS.

Once FIOS is available I need to look at how FIOS TV compares to Comcast HD. I really don't want to give up my TIVO. Hopfully a cheaper HD TIVO will come out or I'll have to wait for Comcast to ugrade to TIVO software.
