Good thing I don't have Time Warner
« on: June 03, 2008, 12:01:23 PM »
...though I doubt Comcast will be far behind if this pans out:

<<
"On Thursday, new Time Warner Cable Internet subscribers in Beaumont, Texas, will have monthly allowances for the amount of data they upload and download. Those who go over will be charged $1 per gigabyte... [T]iers will range from $29.95 a month for... 768 kilobits per second and a 5-gigabyte monthly cap to $54.90 per month for... 15 megabits per second and a 40-gigabyte cap. Those prices cover the Internet portion of subscription bundles that include video or phone services. Both downloads and uploads will count toward the monthly cap."

40GB cap that counts towards uploads AND downloads?  That's no where near enough.  And those per month prices aren't low enough to compensate for such restrictive caps.

That is total CRAP.  I have done over 12GB in one day in the past (last month).  If I had Time Warner, I'd be switching to another ISP.

Verizon DSL isn't the greatest, but I have yet to get hassled about what I am downloading and/or how much bandwidth I am consuming.  I also read an article from the CEO or something that mentioned that they will not be snooping on their customers traffic, so that's a bonus.

I know I just downloaded 9 Gb last night.  And because of the download program I am sure I have uploaded at least 13.5 Gb as well.  So that means I would have used almost half of my bandwidth for the month.  That is ridiculous.  They are probably instituting this because they have stretched their infrastructure too much and don't have the capability of serving their customers in the correct way.
Never, but never question the engineers judgement.

Hhaha I have all 6 seasons of CSI Las Vegas... I had to stop.  If you like CSI you would probably like "Dexter" its a Showtime show it currently has 2 seasons, with season 3 on the way.  I may be at the next monthly if ya want them.

Well, comcast is doing their own evil:

"Reuters says Comcast's trials will begin in the Chambersburg, Pennsylvania and Warrenton, Virginia areas. Heavy bandwidth users will face reduced file transfer speeds during "congested periods," although Comcast hasn't told the news agency any specifics—namely the extent and the frequency of those speed drops. Comcast is also trying to decide whether to limit transfers for all users to 250GB per month. On the upside for net neutrality proponents, the company "will stop distinguishing the type of activity or services that are considered bandwidth hogs.""
