Ghost Recon Online Beta
« on: April 25, 2012, 11:52:30 PM »
Made a quick video of some of the Ghost Recon Online beta tonight. I didnt spend a lot of time editing it but I wanted to show the game type and some of the mechanics. The sonar and cloak are specific to Recon classes. There are other perks for the support and assault classes (charge and shield for support..I don't remember the assault perks atm). Anyways enjoy

This looks really good!  I applied for the beta.  Looks like a title I would purchase.  Makes me want to bust out Advanced Warfighter again.
That's Mr. Deception to you.

I'm actually not so thrilled after seeing the gameplay.  I was a huge fan of the early Rainbow6 and GRAW series.  Those games were very tactical.  This seems more like a cross between Call of Duty and Gears of War.  It kinda looks fun..... I think.  If it comes with a dedi that I can host I'll probably get it.  As I do most games like that on principal.

I can"t find the articles but from what I remember it will most likely not have dedi support. Obviously this can change but that's what I read....somewhere :2thumbsup:

That's because it's going to be a free to pay. play game. Servers will be hosted through ubisoft and will be free to play on PC. It has the League of Legends aspect where if you want something and do not want to earn the RP to buy an item or gun upgrade by matches and level ups, that you can purchase points outright. It's basically an MMO FPS in a sense (LoTR Online, D&D Online, Age of Conan,  DC Universe). Can't argue the value of a game that costs nothing to download and play. I think it has potential

Isn"t that kind of a bad thing though? Seems like games today are all going that route but I have never understood why that is a "good" thing or a "pro" rather than a "con"

Also I thought this game was peer to peer? Ubisoft has servers but that's just for stat tracking no? Isn't this game more of a COD style where it's p2p?

It is becoming very popular. From MMO's aspects it seems that once the target audience loses interest in an MMO it becomes free to play as a second wind of trying to squeeze all it can in profits before it goes offline like Matrix or Tubula Rasa. I mean the positive is you can play the game for free with no risk of purchasing it and turning out its a bust. The only drawback is the fact that people can buy there way to an advantage over you (same could be said about TF2). It does not mean that people who purchase points are gaining access to exclusive weapons or items you can not get, just means they are able to get them faster unless you put the time into the game yourself

In any case, I do not see the negative of purchasing items (keys, items, my strange sapper that I want so bad) since I figure 30-50 bucks invested in the game anyways if I like it so why not put that into items or points

More like BF3 I guess. The matchmaking system automatically puts you in a server hosted by Ubisoft...You have a friends list, mailbox, social tab which allows you to create a "firefight" aka basically squads you and friends together. So I guess sorta like CoD MW3 matchmaking style except only one gameplay select (which is like a TF2...capture points A and B...C unlocks..Cap C to win)

Free to play games keep me coming back by being enjoyable and not shoving the fact that paying will get me huge advantages. Basically, your game should be something I want to spend money on to make the experience better, not something I have to spend money on to make it bearable.

looks like ill definitely be skipping this now.

I'm interested to see if Valve sells out to these shady tactics and takes dedi's away from us, and allows real money to unlock better guns with CS:GO

They will not my friend...at least not the dedi's. Already been confirmed to have dedi support at launch. Was going to make my own server but for the price I got it at I couldn't pass up the 20 slot gameservers.com deal. Don't wanna hijack the thread so perhaps I can redirect you to another. http://www.fites.net/general-discussion/csgo-yay-or-nay/  8)
