Video on front page about hydrogen car. That is HUGE. Everyone's been talking about hydrogen power and he put it to practical use! That is sweet!

I've thought for a long time that electrolysis of water to produce hydrogen would be a great way to get the hydrogen supplies we would need for it to be a viable fuel source. But electrolysis isn't a very energy efficient process, i.e., it takes just about as much energy to perform the electrolysis as it puts out in the form of combustible hydrogen.

The story says it is a "special" form of electrolysis, and he probably can't divulge too many details because of patents and all, but I would be very interested to see how he's overcoming the inherent inefficiencies of this.
Please just walk away. I don't want to have to stand here and say something so awesome that I'll have to remember it the rest of the day. Thank you!

It has to be at least somewhat efficient since he was able to get 100 miles on a few ounces of water. The way they said it, I was unclear whether that was the pure water form or water-hybrid form.

I've read the same thing as Sully. It seems like a great idea but the problem scientists are having is that you're using just as much or more energy burning fossil fuels to create the electrolysis reaction than the amount of energy you're getting out of the water. I'll remain skeptical until I see some actual evidence of how this guy is achieving this.

Right, I saw a whole spiel in Germany about BMW trying to improve the efficiency of electrolysys. (they wanted to use wind power) Apparently this guy has found a sweet way to do it.  He did say the car could run on straight water though.  News stories do have a tendancy to dumb down things so morons can understand it all, so there's certainly details left out. I'm excited to see what becomes of this.  They said a major domestic auto manufacturer already has a deal with him.  GM, Ford or Chrysler could provide the leverage and/or engineering power to make this a more viable technology for the future.

In other news...

E85 is going to be available in PA soon, Lancaster is supposed to get the first of it.

AND

Its safe to run E85 in REGULAR cars up to about two gallons per tank.  Since 1988 all cars sold in the united states must be able to run on E10. (10% ethanol/gas blend, heavily used in the midwest)

I'm pretty sure my next car will be flex-fuel, this is the future!

Exciting stuff!
