F.E.A.R. review/thoughts
« on: November 01, 2005, 10:43:45 AM »
Hey guys,

I just got done looking into the F.E.A.R Demo and decided to go along and buy the game. I haven't gotten the thing in the mail yet, but should be getting it sometime in the next day or two. In anycase, I wanted to know what you guys thught about it. I read reviews from pc gamer who gave it a 92%. I have to say that I'm not a huge fan the over scary Doom 3 games, but I bought this one sheerly on the graphics and effects. The screenshots are so amazing that I wanted to see it myself. Along with that, I was told that the storyline in great. Lighting is supposed to be the best ever and gunshots are so crisp and accurate, its really suppost to make it realistic. It also offers some decent Multiplay (at least I read). Truely I can't wait till i get to play it. One of the best things I'm told about the game would be the Physics. Its suppost to have the most realistic action ever in a game. i read reviews of people blowing apart rooms and pencils are rolling on the ground. They truely defined the object motions down to a t. In anycase, please let me know if it's anything that I'm hoping or more. FYI...I bought the directors cut DVD edition. I'm interested in seeing what the difference is between the directors cut and the original (I bought it mainly because it's in DVD so I don't have to have 6 discs taking up my case like in farcry)

Played thru about 90% of the game so far.... There is plenty of action, and times thats scared me Crapless. its like HL2 meets Sixth Sense meets John Woo.

not many weapons in the game, like 4 or 5..

not many types of baddies either. 3 main ones, and a mech thrown in sometimes.

i'd give it an 8/10 from what ive seen. graphics are nice lookin, sound is superb. AI is also very intuitive. sketchy storyline tho. they barely explain anything... good game overall

Well, I appriciate the review agent. I imagine the game will be one of those that reveals everything at the very last sec of the game (who would of thought that Carver would become a over pumped freak and try to kill Jack in Far Cry?)

Haha...I haven't beaten Far Cry yet either....As soon as I  started reading that last sentence, I clenched my eyes shut and hit the back button (programmed onto the side key of my mouse, no visuals needed).

I just need to remember to never read this thread again until I do play it.
Please just walk away. I don't want to have to stand here and say something so awesome that I'll have to remember it the rest of the day. Thank you!

Are you guys serious...

Dude, like farcry came out what a year ago. I thought all you "gamers" would have had that thing beat by now. In anycase, my bad. I thought everyone had beaten it. On a positive note, got Maximum Pc and read great reviews for the BF2 expansion. Can't wait till it comes out. It's suppost to be mainly close quarters maps (citys and such) since they said that close quarters maps are preffered by BF2 gamers. It looks hot, and from now On, I'll be sure to reference analogies from games that are 3 years old that everyone has played (haven't thought of an example to give yet)

So, in Doom 1.. there is this massive battle at the end and if you can win... you become the savior of Mars (loose memory)

haha

Just remember to put in *SPOILER* prior to typing out the ending to a game lol

I have a 2.4ghz P4, 1GB of Ram, and a 6800GT oc'd w/ latest drivers and FEAR still makes my computer Crap a brick graphics wise. They can do much better than that when Republic Commando looks twice as good and runs beautifully.

Aside from that, the actual gameplay wasn't all that inspiring for me. I just didn't get drawn into the game all that much, and it doesn't really seem like you can take advantage of your environment while playing. It tries to be a stealth horror FPS but lacks solid stealth, horror, or FPS aspects IMO. Also the weapons seem clunky and uninspiring.

As far as farcry goes... I just got bored of it after about 1 hour... not sure why. I have the game installed but have about zero inclination towards ever finishing it.

Games I do like include:
Q3 Multiplayer
Unreal2k4
Half-Life 2 Single player
Splinter Cell 1 & 2 (I didn't buy SC3 because UBIsoft used StarForce copy protection on it)
Star Wars Republic Commando and Jedi Academy & KOTOR 1 & 2
The Age of Empires Series of games
Master of Orion 1 & 2
Serious Sam 1 & 2
Nox
Daggerfall and hopefully the upcoming Oblivion Sequel
