Damn. I was just about to post this.

Got to love late night web surfing.

Duke Nukem Never!
-
Well Take2 does own the rights to the game. So they can do with it whatever they wish. Apparently there are rumors flying around that the game needed another 5 million dollars to finish. I thought I might see it in my lifetime. Hell we got to see Chinese Democracy and how much that sucked ass. :)

What Happened Since Duke Nukem Forever Was Announced (http://news.softpedia.com/news/What-Happened-Since-Duke-Nukem-Forever-Was-Announced-46340.shtml)
I remember seeing that article some time ago and dug it up for our enjoyment. Hell, all of that happened and that was posted in '07.

Microsoft released 5 consumer-oriented versions of Windows and might release Vista before Duke Nukem Forever hits shelves.

Science & Technology:
- The Wright brothers designed and flew the first airplane.
- The theory of General Relativity.
- The United States' entire program to send a man on the moon, from Kennedy's challenge to the landing.
Wars:
- The American War for Independence
- The United States Civil War
- World War I
- World War II and the entire Manhattan Project.
- The United State's involvement in the Vietnam War.
DAMN!

I mean 13 years and it's still not ready...come on! George broussard should have been fired after 10 years and a no-show. I mean i know he did a lot for the idustry back in the day but it's got to be an embarrasment for him. He falls to the ranks of JohN Romero and daikatana.
-
I accepted the fact a loooooong time ago that this would never see the light of day.....
-
And I forget about it until someone brings it up again.
-
We all do.
-
I still think 3D Realms' best game was Wacky Wheels.
-
I still have the demo for Wacky Wheels somewhere. Now that takes me back.
-
To be honest, i got the same joy from playing Duke Nukem 3d when i played through Prey. If you have doubt about how much influence 3drealms had for Prey, see the wiki article on 3drealms: 'The final game released by 3D Realms was Prey, a game released on July 11, 2006 after being stuck in development hell for eleven years. Prey was originally developed internally by 3D Realms, but after several years of delays, the company paid Humanhead Studios to develop the game."
From the very beginning and through the end, Prey just "felt" like Duke Nukem 3d. You could play games on the video game machines within Prey, you could activate stuff like the faucets. There were big boss battles. The creatures were all very unique and interesting. There was tons of humor through-out. I loved how you would find a random radio playing excepts of a 'coast to coast: late nights with Art Bell" where people would call-in to the show talking about things that have been happening in the game. I loved those little touches.
So, personally, I really don't need a DNF when i felt that i got my fill with Prey.
-
But....it's.....DUKE NUKEM! Nothing can top that 3d realms mega hit....except Duke Nukem.....and Chuck Norris.
-
yes prey was pretty cool but not quite Duke. who knows, maybe someone else will pickup the game and finish it!
-
At this point, who give a f#%k? It's been delayed since I had my 300mhz machine.....and quite frankly, it's NEVER coming out.
-
AHEM!

"Despite rumors and statements to the contrary, 3D Realms (3DR) has not closed and is not closing," reads the statement. "3DR retains ownership of the Duke Nukem franchise. Due to lack of funding, however, we are saddened to confirm that we let the Duke Nukem Forever (DNF) development team go on May 6, while we regroup as a company. While 3DR is a much smaller studio now, we will continue to operate as a company and continue to license and co-create games based upon the Duke Nukem franchise."
"Take-Two made a last-minute proposal to acquire the Duke Nukem franchise and the 3DR development team. Take-Two’s proposal was unacceptable to 3DR for many reasons, including no upfront money, no guaranteed minimum payment, and no guarantee to complete the DNF game. From 3DR’s perspective, we viewed Take-Two as trying to acquire the Duke Nukem franchise in a 'fire sale.' Those negotiations fell through on May 4, a deal never materialized, and the DNF team was sadly released a few days later."

Due out next year. By Gearbox. I liked Borderlands, but it was too Diablo-ish. Got kind of boring kind of quick. On the other hand, since they're devoting a team to an actual story that's been established with an iconic character at the helm.... can't wait. That's all.
-
Looks like boarder lands... does not look like Duke at all... I mean WTF!? There were NO iconic enemies... We were given no sound from the game.. And if you do a Google image search for Duke Nukem you will find that MOST of the fighting happens in city areas not in a wide open wasteland... But I guess that's all gearbox knows... I was not impressed.

They let people play the demo at PAX. If Duke Nukem forever beats HL2:EP3 to market I think Valve really should close down.
-
Valve doesn't need to work on EP3 right now, dontcha know? With that Black Mesa mod nearing completion, they can hold off on actually working on their flagship title as they know their rabid fans will be effectively sedated for a year with this crazy project finally being finished.

I saw those screenshots on the ign site, but it looked like it was mostly from a single sequence, there were plenty of other screenshots from inside buildings, out in the middle of various cities, etc. I truly hope they don't create a Duke Nukem Dirt edition :)
As I said a year ago (yay for thread necromancy), i got my Duke Nukem fill from playing Prey a while back... so if this flops big time, then i'm cool with that.

Ditto

Interesting article talking about what happened last year and why they think it's actually going to be released this time. Also some nice tidbits about it potentially being "in the right hands."

Wouldn't the "right hands" technically be ID? I mean, Carmack and company do amazing things with their tech and I'm pretty sure they'd find a way to make The Duke's virtual foot step out of your monitor and kick you in the face (if you're not chewing bubble gum).

Gamestop and Amazon have a placeholder date for DNF, it seems. Copied from Kotaku.
"Duke Nukem Forever's official website recently linked over to preorder pages on Amazon and Gamestop, and both say the game is due for release on Feb. 1, 2011.
The most recent information had Duke Nukem Forever releasing in early 2011. Feb. 1, 2011 is a Tuesday, the traditional release day for video games in North America; it is not the end of a financial quarter. It may be a placeholder date. I've emailed a Gearbox contact to ask for further comment.
Update: A Gearbox representative says any date out there is a placeholder only."
