Well the first part of my dual xeon toy arrived today

The rest of my stuff should be getting here soon.  I will post it up as it arrives.

I've got another 1gb of PC800 rambus sitting here, a pull from an P4 1700 server I had ...



also, what speed Xeon?

I've got a dual 1.6 xeon server sitting here that uses DDR/DDR-ECC ... rambus is so out of date by now, I'm surprised you found a server board that uses it ...

the board came with two 1.8's.   I was gunna ask you if you had any rdram laying around, but tekie said you probably would not...oh well.  

I have a 160 gig hdd on the way.  All i still need to get is a psu and a case to fit an atx extended board.

edit: i just figured out that i need continuity modules to run in the empty ram slots.  Have any of those laying around nimby?

They belong to Red, but he is willing to sell'em.

I got the case from cuzz today as well.  I had to rig the case a little to allow me to fit an atx extended board into it.

a "pentium 5" power supply from a no name company ... eep

this is one of those cases where it'd be worth the extra $$$ to get an antec or thermaltake powersupply ...
a dual Xeon server eats ALOT of power, and doesn't handle low 12 or 5V lines well ... trust me, went through this on my Dual 1.6HT server

I was having lots of trouble with it, but it is finally working.

The ram that i got turned out to be bad, so right now it is running on some ram i borrowed from cuzz.  

I figured out last night that the processors are hyper-threaded, so i am happy about that.

Right now i am running windows server 2k3, and i am going to put a linux distro called xandros on there soon.

What version of Xandros? I thought they was super comercial allstar!

I know that have a home version of thier router, which I really like. But thier comercial features are nice, esp if you want something quick and user friendly.

it is for linux based server needs ... if you want to get REALLY hardcore about it, OpenBSD for the win ....

i just finished installing xandros.  it is really nice.  

it let me navigate right over my home network to my windows comp upstairs and get some music without out touching any special network stuff.

but it did get kinda mad at me when i tried to install the nvidia drivers.
