DropBox Joins The Bandwagon
« on: July 03, 2011, 12:26:26 PM »
Well, looks like DropBox has joined FaceBook and a slew of other companies in changing their terms of service by declaring eminent domain: http://jdsawyer.net/2011/07/02/put-it-in-the-cloud-are-you-nuts/

Mother...FudgeERS! This royally pisses me off. I paid for the damn account, give me my rights back, A******s!  :cussing:

Sigh.. seems yet again that the only safe haven I have now is my FTP. DropBox was an incredible time saver for transferring and distributing assets and renders.

Man you should have seen this coming about a month ago when they admitted that their employees could access your files.

Why would a company place rules which allowed them to claim your work if you used there services?
Plus I'm guess most cloud types companies are doing this now?

Are you paying for "their services"?  Usually that's what them to the claim.  If I let you borrow a pool pump and filter for free I think that entitles me to pee in your pool...If you rent/buy my pool filter/equipment then you don't owe me squat.

I paid for the damn account, give me my rights back, A******s!  :cussing:

Is drop box free?  Do you get anything extra for a paid account?

PS EDIT:
Eminent domain refers to a monetary reimbursement when Da Man wants your shight for "public use"  As in roads or parks.  Not to split hairs but they buy it from you, not really stealing.  They Steal it from you when you refuse the money.
I think the author used a term when they simply should have said stealing, stole, ... maybe seize.

The free dropbox accounts are for 2.5gb of synchronized space. I paid for the 250gb account.

My CCP is a variation of a EULA for the state.

Yeah, but it doesn't say that the state owns your bullets and you are just renting them right?;)

No. It does state that I am permitted the right to carry my instrument with intent to lawfully deposit my bullets as needed in accordance with the law. It also states that if I deposit my bullets in an unauthorized manner I can incur state penalties up to and including forfeiture of license, use of firearm, freedom, and my life.

Imagine a world where the H&K could lawfully be used to enforce the original EULA of DB.

Yeah saw that. Though, they didn't actually revise the ToS, they just reworded it to reflect their original intent. But I'm not a conspiracy theorist, insisting the worst. I can accept this clarification.

That would be a revision.
