Title: DOTA 2 training/practice?
Post by: MahoneyRed on March 25, 2014, 03:57:41 PM
For a while I was the only FITES regular playing DOTA 2, but recently others have been getting into it. (For a total of four people, counting myself. That's a 300% growth!)

If there are any people that want to learn but have been shying away from it due to the learning curve, there are a couple things I want to point out:

1) There is now a training course. There never was before, but now there is a training tutorial to get you through the basics of the game.

2) I want to host a training lobby.

Essentially we could gather people in the lobby, give it some basic settings that allow people to move around, and teach people some of the basics of the game. If there are people interested in learning more about the game, or want some guidance in their first go through, then let me know and I'll set something up.

Dota 2 is the Crap. Glad I started playing since I've been bored as hell with TF2 and L4D2 and was having a hard time finding a new game I could dive into. I'm on hand to participate/help coach.

I'll probably do something on Saturday. I won't be around on Friday evening since the family has me up at the ass crack o dawn on Saturday. We'll go over some things and then try to play a match, probably just against bots, at first.

I am sort of interested.  The main reason why I don't play these style of games is that I just don't have the time to sink into building up a character.  i feel like I would play once or twice and then just never pick it up again.  Although....I do have a much niver laptop now that I think would be able to handle DOTA2 so I may give this a shot this weekend.

Sean, from what I've seen, the chars all start out at the same level each game and level up during the game to unlock new powers.

Here is a quick vid that goes over the very basics of Dota 2 to help those out that plan on playing with us tomorrow night.

So this training session was pretty basic and it seems like people got the gist of it. We can do some more bot matches so that people get an idea of what the game play is like. Message me here or on Steam to let me know if you want to fire up a local server. Also, I am going to see if any of the people I game with are willing to teach people how to play. I know a handful of the people from the LAN are willing to teach people what to do here.

Yeah, Czar, you are learning the support role really well so there are a few things to teach you about being a good support to your carry. We can get another bot game going, and even join a real match. We could bring twins with us and do a tri-lane.

A three-way huh?

This support role is a new thing for me.. Usually with top down games like this (diablo..) I stick to the barbarian/tank so hanging back and not engaging in direct combat feel different.

I have off tonight and Friday night and may try to play a bit.
