Title: Does anyone else suffer from Game Nostalgia?

Does anyone else suffer from Game Nostalgia?

When I got to college, in the Fall of 1999, I had the pleasure of being exposed to a blazingly fast broadband connection on campus. The chums I roomed with in my end of the dorm hall quickly all became friends and soon after, late night gaming sessions occupied just about every night of the week.

Some of my most fond memories from that time include 8 player C&C RA2 and Tiberium Sun (the original..) with games lasting 4+ hours. Teams of 4 would meet for a pre-game briefing in someone's room and we'd use our landline telephones for coordinating attacks while in game. Post-game meetings would take place to discuss tactics and ways to improve.

In fact, I used my stereo system on several occasions to blast Flight of the Valkyries down the dorm hall as I was launching a massive air strike on Tiberium Sun. Someone would shout down the hall "Look out! Czar's launched the planes!" The best, however, was blasting the Sabre Dance as my team of 4 thoroughly violated one of the enemy bases in a finely choriographed display of sheer force and tact.

Quake II was a real hit amongst us and I`ll always cherish the skin I found of Barney the Barn Door. When you turned to the side, it was almost impossible to get hit. .. which of course led me to make my own skin.. a 1px x 1px dot which lasted all of 20 min before people came to my door with threats. Muhaha.

The original Half-Life deathmatch occupied us for hours at a time. Just hearing the sound effects from it gets me giddy.

Surely others out there have similar game memories. Let's get some games going!

So..would anyone be down for one, some, or all of the following some night (using Hamachi where needed)?

(=) Red Alert 2
(=) Tiberium Sun
(=) Quake II
(=) Half-Life (original)

When I first started college we were trying to figure out ways to run a MicroProse game called Master Of Magic on every computer we could find.  A bit like civilization with magic, It was a great game and could occupy us for hours.  The other fun thing to do was to run Doom in the computer labs.  Also when we were stuck on the Mac's we would get a game of Marathon going.

Speaking of which I have been trying to get my old Star Wars flight simulators on Virtual Machines and trying to play them. Haven't really got that down. I have all of those except Quake 2. Damn Czar now I must go figure out how to get these damn flight simulators to run.

I don't remember Crystal Quest.  I just remember when Marathon came out and it was only a 70 meg download. On PSU's backbone it was a 5 minute download and a quick install.

We (I) tried to get some Q2 games going at the last LAN.  I have an all in one RAR that has the glquake2 binaries and wads.  I ran a server and had one other person on it, so i know it works.  On hamachi I'm not sure of.

Didn't Sully say that he has a box that he might be able to get hooked up at work for our COD4 server?  Then it should be freeeeeeeee.

I believe that was in reference to hosting a file server (my storage box) at his place of work.

We can host it through one of the game servers that we use for the LANs. I can have those connected to the cable modem in my office. It doesn't really matter what I put on there, though just sticking to game servers I think would be a good idea (no file serving).

I think it would be fun to see the fites cod4 server go public.
